Has anyone done this ?

my situation is like this,

I currently have 2 or 3 3.5" internal drives some sata some are ide
as I currently have several drives inside my case, I want to get these connected up so I can go through them and transfer files around between internal and external drives (and the ones not currently connected)

Is it possible to get say 4 internal drives connected to my computer via USB without adding any additional power supplies (I'd like to run them all from the computer and not by external power source)

if you are wanting to use a 3.5" internal HDD externally you will need to use a caddy hat has its own power supply otherwise the drive will not have enough power.

I have a old caddy here that I sometimes use to test HDDs and it has its own power supply. the drives that normally get power from USB ports are 2.5" HDDs like the WD passports

Overclocker's disk enclosures are at:

Which is quite a small selection so you may need to look at similar things elsewhere. But note that, as ED209 says, you will not be able to power a 3.5" disk enclosure over USB and enclosures for them will be externally powered.

so something like this ?

shame you cant put say 4 hard drives into one unit, 1 external power to power them all and obviously 4 USBs connecting from the computer to all 4 hard drives
