Internal HDD into External using usb?

In a word yes however are you buying this simply to transfer stuff from your old HDD to a new one? If so that can be done far more quickly with both drives connected internally.

On the other hand if you buy the caddy then you have an external drive that you can carry around with you afterwards.

Yeah, ill be using it as an external afterwards.
Dont want to put it in my new pc anyway, got 4 drives in there and need to transfer stuff from 4 hdd's.

will work fine then, it'll be limited to around 20-30mb/s (internal drives are more like 40-120mb/s)

but it'll work

personally i'd get an icybox

get a "360" or "361" model, there are a lot of variations on them

you can get some with usb2 & sata external connections, with internal ide & sata, around £28-35
or usb2 external, with ide internal around £18-22

they're the rounded type, and the build quality is something else compared to the akasa models.
