Help me find one! Anyone here have recommendations? Preferably a passive one as I dont want a small 40mm fan whirring around inside my case. Only need a single drive bay and must support hot swap and be sata2.0. On your marks, go! :D

The internal one has a fan. Do you think it would be ok to just disconnect it? Rest of the case has decent airflow so I dont see it being a problem.

Also, how does hot swapping a hard drive work on ICH9 (AHCI) and Windows? On nForce boards the drives would show up as removable devices that you could stop and then remove, they dont do the same on ICH9. My plan is to have 2 or 3 hard drives that i can backup data on and just hot swap them when needed, dont want to have to turn off the pc each time.

Go grab a program called HotSwap! it allows you to dynamically stop devices which don't want to appear in the Safely Remove Hardware list. I use it with one of the external caddies I linked to above and it works great.

You should be able to disconnect the fan in the internal caddie, if you're worried something like SpeedFan should allow you to monitor the HDD temp.
