International or club football ?

I almost feel sorry for England fans. I remember supporting England in the latter stages of Italia '90 and they played with a real passion that was reflected in the support. The team did better than anyone expected and, even though they lost the semi, most people saw it as a successful campaign.

The current mob are spoiled by huge contracts and the trappings of being mega-rich, even mediocre players are multi-millionaires. They generally don't give a toss about the cause and just want to turn up, win and go back to their clubs. The fans expect them to play as well as they do in the league and are rightly disappointed when they don't. I have to say the expectation levels of the fans are unrealistic as well and the resulting apathy is getting more widespread.

I don't think English national football has ever recovered from the 1996 'failure'; since then there's been bad management, fan trouble, false saviors, the Wembley debacle, sex scandals, the list goes on.

Tough one. Generally when this topic has come up before, the majority favour club football.

Personally I find that international football, at it's best, wins it for me. The atmosphere in big tournaments when England are playing is emmense and the raw emotion of Italia'90, or the early stages of France'98 will be hard to match.

Sadly such occasions are few and far between however; club football wins in terms of quantity.

dont support a club but support England.

I've always thought you were a Man Utd fan from your posts..

Anyway, I like both the same. The only bit I don't like is the early qualifying matches, prefer the club matches then (like this week). The latter stages of qualifying are always more exciting though.

I've gone past the point of caring with England, I only watch their matches because it's football. The CB partnership of Terry and Rio has to be one of the most dislikable on the planet IMO, and I often wish for us to concede just so I can see their faces. Infact I dislike nearly all of our players immensely and so I just can't get behind them. Barring Hargreaves, Neville and Owen they are all tossers who can kiss my sweaty nads.

Club football is where it's at.

Club before country without a doubt. Liverpool winning the league, Champions League and possibly the FA Cup are all more important to me than England winning the WC. I don't know if it's since Sven took charge but my passion for International football has never been as low.

Dont be daft, if i was to actually support a team id support a top team, not mediocre piles of **** like Fletcher and co. The only reason i go is because my dad has got awesome seats near the bench for very little £££.

Your attitude on here stinks at the best of times but you really are turning into a bit of an ABU

For someone who goes to games every week you should be a bit more pleasant about going to see MU, theres people on here that would kill to go to those games and have decent seats but you dont seem to give a **** so give them up for Tony Soprano, atpbx or Memph, people who will enjoy going instead of because their Daddy has good seats that he paid nowt for

Er ok. Sorry.

they should cut down the size of the qualifying groups for sure.. 7 teams in one group? bit much really..

apart from that.. i enjoy club and international football.. but theres far more prestige in winning an international competition, due to the fact they come around so rarely.. the champions league comes along every year.. it just doesnt stack up to the world cup, which is truly global, and the pinnacle of a footballers career really..

you get remembered for winning the world cup.. but who in 20 years time will remember you for winning the sodding 1984 division 1 title? lol

My attitude to poor football sucks, there has been nothing wrong with my attitude elsewhere on this forum :p

Im a football fan....not an ABU. I give credit when its due. To the likes of Ronaldo, Scholes, Rooney, G.Neville etc who are good players.

i would agree with most of the replys on here, Liverpool > England for me. I hate club league breaks and international games always seem to hit me with a lack of passion and quality!
