Well its very rare to come across anyone who is genuinely open minded, especially in an internet forum. The majority of people would like you to think they are whilst attempting to promote one agenda or another.

Evolution has a long history of tested experiments, hypotheses and results. It produces testable predictions and is good science. Nothing is taught as "facts" - there are no facts in science, only good theories that have (so far) stood up to experimentation.

Religious proclamations like "intelligent design" are not theories and cannot, by definition, be tested and have no place in a science classroom.

let's break this question down. What you are essentially asking is "Why is evolution, a scientific theory (Google theory vs scientific theory btw) which is accepted as the best explanation by nearly every scientist on the planet taught in school when my religious explanation, which is accepted by only a few, based on geographical location and differs wildly with other religious takes on the same issue, not taught"

That is because anyone with an open mind see this thread and just rolls their eyes and press the back button. Anyone who actually has an opinion in this thread is not only wasting their time and effort they are just contributing to the endless fighting between each side, which they are also arguing about. It's catch 22 and frankly rather stupid, which will become particularly apparent when they thread gets to 15 pages like last weeks, and low and behold no one wins. EVER!!

I'd have no problem calling anybody who said the earth was 6,000 years old an idiot while standing in front of them.

Just to clarify,

Saying "god Y exists", isn't the same as claiming the earth is 6,000 years old - one is unknown, the other is demonstrably false (which is why calling them an idiot is justified in the traditional sense of the meaning of the word).

Stupidity & ignorance get's no free passes, just because you label it as a religion it doesn't make it immune to criticism.

The only people who really do annoy me are the hypocrites who buy into spirituality/magic healing/homeopathy & have the nerve to insult religious people for being foolish.

The problem here is atheists are being held to a lower level of what expected of them, unless you STFU and keep you non-belief to yourself then you are labelled a ‘militant atheist’, whilst of course the religious can go around ‘spreading the word’, selling books on the subject, doing talks and the like and yet that is fine and not ‘militant’.

Go and turn on a Sky box for example and show me how many hours a week are aimed at the religious and how many are given to people like Dawkins. So you’ll sit by with nearly 100 ‘God Channels’ and with the BBC practically becoming a spokesperson for the Anglican church every Sunday (Songs Of Praise, the Big Questions etc) but Dawkins gets two documentaries on Channel 4 and suddenly we have a ‘militant’ on our hands.

Have you ever been to hotel and found one of Dawkins’ book in the room? I haven’t but I’ve found plenty of Bibles. Are there buildings all over the country whose only purpose is to covert and maintain people into atheism? No but there are countless churches, synagogues and mosques.

If Richard Dawkins, by releasing a few books, doing a couple of documentaries and being a public speaker make him a ‘militant’ then that must make your average vicar an ‘extremist’.

I'm not saying every single believer is an idiot, but those who make specific falsifiable claims which 30 seconds in Google can 100% disprove really are.

Stupidity is will-full ignorance, ergo they are stupid.

Um, I'd advise actually watching the video next time instead of just Googling, finding a video with the words 'Dawkins' and 'Millitant Athiesm' in and posting it.

If you had have watched the video you would have seen that the term 'militant atheism' is used sarcastically.

“Now it may sound as if I’m going to preach Atheism, and I want to re-assure you that is not what I’m going to do. In an audience as sophisticated as this, that would be preaching to the choir. No, what I want to urge upon you…[pauses as audience laugh as they realise he is doing a parody of Religious preacher who claims they won’t preach but then do], what I want to urge upon you is ‘Militant Atheism’ [audience laugh again and clap the obvious joke as they realise the term is being used tongue in cheek].

But that’s putting it too negatively……..” he then goes on to explain exactly why you don’t need to be ‘militant’ or forceful to get the point across and that evolutionary theory alone is although to dispels the myths of religion.
 
Religion is nothing more than the brainwashing of children into becoming easy control mentally ill adults who then brainwash their children to keep the cycle repeating.

Wow. Just wow. I don't know what point you're trying to get across here.. (?) That there's not one person on this forum who would call you mentally ill to your face and truly mean it? Or that you feel the need to hit the person who'd question your beliefs, and liken them to having a mental problem? Laughable either way.
