at my dads place he always he the modem connected directly to the pc and then when i come i'd plug the modem into my wireless access point so i got wireless on my laptop. this quickly got annoying so got this router so both can share net. all works most of the time, however some reason the wireless has now gone extremely slow, google taking 5 seconds to laod and not loading all in one etc.

now thing is i have no clue why is it doing this and need some advice on things i canttry to speed it up.

this happens regardless if the other pc is on or not, wireless is secure so no one else is using it, just me. signal strength is excellent and it says i have 11mbps speed.

Is it the same wired?
What wireless AP and adapter are you using - 11Mbps isn't great if they're both 802.11g.

man just wrote out a long post and as net was so slow when i refreshed i lost it.

bascially isaid that when it is wired the speed is great, really fast, and also that i am using a d-link 2000ap+, no adapter afaik, i have modem to router to wireless ap.

i did a speedtest and i get download speeds of 1483 but upload it stops everytime and i get nothing, possible the problem?

If it's fine wired, the problem's with your wireless hardware, or do you mean the speedtest is still wonky when you're connected to the router with a cable?

If you don't have an adapter, how are you connecting to the wireless AP? Smoke signals?

ahh the adapter is the bit in the laptop? have no clue what is it as it's built in, how can i find out?

whenconnected via cable speed test is fine, when wireless it doesn't work. when using wireless ap at mums it works fine, at dads (where at atm) it is not working rightthough it has beofre without the router but why would that make a difference

also another thing, when connecting at my mums i just plug it into the router where ever free and it works, here there is always limited connection message and i get no connection, after many restarts of everything eventually it just randomly starts working. why might that be?

Device manager?
The limited connectivity thing is probably related - it means your machine didn't get an answer from a DHCP server (which is probably the router).

anyone able to help with this again?

i can't even get the wireless ap to work atm as it just get limited connectivity. is this something wrong with the router as the wireless ap works fine at other houses? what can i do to fix it as it gets annoying having to forever restart all the devices until it finally just starts working for no reason.

It could be anything - all "limited connectivity" means is it didn't get an answer from your router, which means nothing.

lol ok so anything i can do to test it out and fix it so it does get an answer from the router? this is definately the router so ican stop restarting the wireless ap and now try doing things to the router?

If there was something wrong with the AP it wouldn't get an answer either - as I said, it doesn't really help...
Manually setting an IP would at least bypass getting an answer from a DHCP server, but odds are it won't make much odds.

so im kind of stuffed? i have finally managed to get a connection which worked for a minute, again beyond slow, but now it has gone and i can't find the connection.

i have manually set ip addresses before but always after a break from setting them i forget what i should put in each box. Can you help me out with this so i can atleast try it once i find the net again.

You're not stuffed, just no further forward to working out what's wrong.

What you set manually should be similar to whatever your router gives out, whether wireless or not.

how do i find what the router gives out?

so whats weird though is that doing an online speed test although it takes a year to get going, once it finishes i still get what i thought it goodish results, ping only 52ms, download speed of 1777kbps, and upload speed of, well nothing atm as it stops at this point and has never managed to get past the upload part.

ok done that, you were right in it hasn't made a differnce.

what has got me thinking though is if it is the router why doesn't it have any problems when connnected by the wire straight to the laptop? but then if it's the wireless ap why no problem when connected to other routers? it's very strange as it's saying i have an excellent connection but with only 1mbps speed.

i have a definate feeling it's to do with the uploading as when doing a test everything is fine until it trys to upload and nothing happens no matter how long i wait and how many times i try it.
