Iam off on my travels in the new year and I will have to resort to internet cafes, any precautions I need to take regarding passwords/usernames? I wont be using onlining banking but iam abit worried about people hacking into my email etc? Or am I worried over nothing?

I would worry more about someone bashing you over the head and running off with your laptop, well depends what country's your going to ;).

S.America, NZ, OZ then Singapore Thailand.

Wont be taking a laptop, thats why iam worried about entering passwords etc into cafes computers.

Maybe have a look in the USB drives incase there is a USB key in there, it could have a keygen running or something...

Some one at work went to Aus and Hong Kong on a research trip and used internet cafe's. When she returned her USB drive was full of worms. That was a fun afternoon

check the connections between the keyboards and the computers, incase there are hardware keyloggers being used. this applies to both PS/2 and USB keyboards.

I'd be more concerned about software keyloggers that run undetected .

As a precaution I would set up a separate email account (gmail etc) instead of using your main one.

Yer good idea, thanks. Althought everyone will contact me on my present address!

Iam away for 6months.

set up your present address to forward to the other account

once youy've replied to people a few times from the new account, they'll start clicking "reply" and away we go....

Definitely set up a new email and have your current one forward to it.

Don't log into anything you wouldn't want to lose control of(myspace etc, without warning people about the fact what they read from you may not be written by you )

Tell people they shouldn't read dodgy sounding emails from you or open attachments unless they can verify the contents/ know they should be receiving them.

Or you can carry a usb stick with firefox mobile stored in it with the cookies. So all you need is click login without entering a password, unless keyloggers can read that too.
