Basically upgraded from 2mb line to 8mb with Tiscali and pay them for the phone line now. Got the email confirming the upgrade had been done on Monday and its been doing it since then.

But now the internet is constantly dieing. Is this because Tiscali are rubbish or do I have to do something to my router..?

The error im getting is...

Connection Test Failed

Make sure your device is connected to a telephone jack using the included phone wire. Otherwise contact your ISP.

If your ISP gives you a static (fixed) IP address, please configure the Internet settings on the device (click here to access the web configurator)

It does it so often ive lost count.

Before any one says I have checked its connected and no we didnt get a static IP. Does anyone have any ideas before I go ringing up Tiscali on Friday if its still happening?

What hardware are you using, and does it give stats like attenuation, SNR margin, the speed it's currently connected at?

Your IP profile has nothing to do with your connection being "very flaky", and never did.

Router - ZyXel P660HW-T1
My PC - Abit AirPace
Other PC - ZyXel G202

These are the stats ive managed to get...

Internetstats.jpg

Upstream Noise Margin

noise margin upstream: 19 db
output power downstream: 12 db
attenuation upstream: 13 db

Downstream Noise Margin

noise margin downstream: 6 db
output power upstream: 20 db
attenuation downstream: 23 db

Try connecting the router to the master socket with no extensions. There's nothing really abnormal about the stats, except the tiny uptime.

i remember this happening too many people upgrading to adslmax- your line would be flaky in that that it would need readjusting to the max service and the disconnects were it training to find the best connection rate- something along those lines anyway according to tiscali!

Tiscali told you a pile of rubbish then, not that that's surprising.

Your connection will stabilise within the first few days at most, provided you leave your modem on all the time. Your IP profile might take longer to steady out, but that has no implications on the stability of your connection.

yeah my connection was fine after 2 days. just left the router to reconnect etc. i've never really trusted tiscali and their reasoning!
