Internet Does Not Work From 2pm Every Day!

Hi,

Not sure if anyone can help, but I'm having the most strange problem.

Since about a week ago, whenever I switch my computer on (usually around 2pm), there is no internet. It simply just does not work. However if I switch the computer off and go out, by the time I get back (Around 8), the internet is working fine again (and nothing has been changed).

Sometimes at around 2pm, the internet will work slightly, meaning it go's at around 0.1 bytes per second. The google logo takes around 40 mins to load. It is rare that it works at all though. This has happened every day at exactly the same time for the past week. I thought I had a faulty ethernet cable, however have since bought a new one and the problem is still the same.

Has anyone got any ideas, as this is driving me crazy. I am with Virgin 2mb if that helps - been with them for years with no problems.

Thanks,

Simon

You could try some monitoring software and check what is happening.

Which make and model of Router?

My router is Dell Trumobile 2300. When you say monitoring software, what do you mean? Can you give an example of a program which may help, that is free?

Thanks for your replies.

There is free software available which allows you to monitor your connection ie Noise Margin, Attenuation, Errors etc.

I was hoping you might have one of a number of Routers for which this software is known to work well but the Dell is presumably someone else's Router with their badge on so I've no idea what might work easily with it.

Something like ADSL Monitor could work but I've no idea how easily you could set it up for that Router.

You should be able to check what is happening if you bring up the right page in the Router but at best this will give a snapshot but is worth trying not least when things are not going well.

That's not much help though considering the router in question is a cable router though is it ?

Suggestion - Connect directly to the modem if possible, this will eliminate it being anything to do with the router, if it's still a problem check the online light (or whatever it is on the modem you have) is solid, if not log into the modem (192.168.100.1 in a browser of your choice) and look at the logs and report back. A modem reboot may be all that's required.

Hi,

I've rebooted the modem and connected the internet directly to the computer, and the problem is still the same. I phoned Virgin today, and an engineer is coming out this week. I hope its the cable modem that's the problem - if so they say they will change it. I just don't understand why its at exactly the same time every day - especially as it works at night.

I'll let you know what happens,

Simon
