Google chrome.
Any of you guys share any information on Google chrome?
Just been reading a little review and read to be pretty good.
Would like if some of you guys could tell me if its any better or worse than IE 8.

Thanks

Chrome is miles faster than anything else out there, however some sites still have the odd ****up with webkit to the point of making them unusable (a couple of app's on facebook crash the tab they are loaded in because of this) although this is being fixed fast and is in no way webkit or Chromes fault. The extension framework with chrome is almost finished as well they just need to get the ability to stop elements from loading all together and they have what in my view is a far more elegant extension framework than Firefox's.

For me Chrome is ready for the mainstream, and the couple of small niggles left will be sorted out very soon.

IE8 annoys me as half the browser based apps we use only work under compatibility view. I just pretend it doesn't exist and so only have to choose between Firefox or Chrome.

Internet Explorer is just not safe really.

One of the major cavets on its use, is due to around 80% of people using it, therefore all malware are designed to exploit holes with I.E over any other browser.

Therefore just due to its popularity you are at risk.

If 80% of people started using Google Chrome then Internet Explorer would be better.

The other issue as mentioned above, I.E is incredibly slow.

I read an article last week testing the speed of the current browsers due to Firefox 3.6 soon to be released which it was comparing to all the competition, and the fastest browsers were 1st. Apples Safari for Windows, 2nd Google Chrome 3rd Firefox 3.6.

And way down, and I mean way down in last place was I.E 8.

Ooh! Doesn't IE give you cancer or somesuch?
Especially after the recent news about IE why the hell would you want to use it?
Firefox or Chrome are the ones to use as there are less viruses targeted at them as they are not as popular (even if they perform much better).

EDIT: I kind of like Safari, but only to look at. In reality the bookmarks look fanbloodytastic but aren't as functional as a simple list.

All the alternative browsers - Firefox, Chrome, Safari, Opera - are good in different ways, really. Firefox is really extensible. Chrome is really fast. Safari has a nice UI. Opera has some useful features like mouse gestures by default. It's just about choosing what's most important to you.

Personally I still use Firefox - whilst Chrome's speed really appeals to me, its extension support is not a patch on Firefox's. All the Chrome adblockers are rubbish compared to Adblock Plus on Firefox, for instance. I'm just hoping that Firefox 4.0 will bring speed parity with Chrome.

IE, on the other hand, doesn't really have anything to recommend it. Even IE8 is pretty slow, not very standards-compliant and has a horrid UI. All the same, if you're using a Windows system you should update IE to IE8, because it's more secure and much faster than previous versions of IE.

Firefox for me as I like the look and addons.

I seem to have developed a disdaine for a IE but I don't know why! Still have to use it at work though, as it's the only browser to fully support cognos 8.

I use Opera here, If you learn the main mouse genstures such as close tab, open tab, refresh and a couple more, its really quite fast to use, espiecially using speed dial, thats a godsend for me!

There are a couple of pages that are a bit funny with Opera, but its not really that bad like it used to be.

Before this I only ever used Firefox, both in my opinion are the best browsers out there, I've never reallty been a fan of Google Chrome, but I would choose it over IE8 hands down. :)

Maybe I should give Chrome another chance?

Whilst Chrome is quick it doesn't have the extensibility of FF and I'm still not a fan of its reporting back to Google.

So far I've found SRwares Iron http://www.srware.net/en/software_srware_iron.php to be the best compromise. It's Webkit underneath and based on the Chromium source code with all the data gathering and reporting back to Google functionality left out.

Whilst I'm not particularly worried about anyone knowing my web surfing habbits, Googles increasing gathering of data via Chrome, Search, Google DNS etc is beginning to irritate me. In particular as the vast majority of the population don't read EULAs and have no idea it's going on. If it was Microsoft doing the same "phone home" and reporting under the covers there'd be uproar!

I actually think for non IT savvy users or enthusiasts IE8 is a good all round compromise browser. Whilst not the fastest the UI is straight forward, it's well patched and maintained and generally pretty secure.
