Internet Explorer Problem

A friend has had the AOL software removed from his laptop and desktop computers, and is now using IE to connect to the web. Since removing AOL he cannot access secure sites, Bank, AOL email etc. This is on his desktop computer. He did the same on his laptop, and he can connect to his bank and AOL email no problem. He assures me no settings have been tinkered with that he is aware of.

He may need to check the settings in control panel for internet explorer and reset them to defaults.

I know you mentioned that any settings have not been changed but you never know :)

When he tries Firefox make sure he doesn't import anything from Internet Explorer as it would import bad internet settings!

;)

The most likely reason that he can't access encrypted sites but can access other sites is that the cypher strength is too low (i.e. 64 bit as opposed to 128 bit).

probably the easiest way to fix it would be with sfc.

Also - suggesting a replacement browser isn't exactly a fix, is it?

EDIT: it is also very possible that the MTU is set too high. AOL uses 1400.
