Internet - HELP!

I come home from College and I turn the router on. I try to connect to the internet and it's not letting me. It finally loads a few minutes later. I go load up xfire and check the server list and as I refresh my ping is 10k+. I check down at my task bar, see if anything is downloading/updating - nothing.

Even the computer downstairs is the exact same, so it's definately an Internet issue.

I have restarted the router twice and I still have extremely high ping.

Currently I have a 'decent' ping, but it keeps going to insane numbers.

I was thinking it could be some sort of DDoS attack? but then again, when I reset the router I get a new IP?

Any help? :S

It just won't settle. It's been a "normal" ping for around 30 secs then it goes to extreme levels.

Go into the router settings (192.168.1.1, normally) and tell it to disconnect from, then reconnect to the internet, rather than just rebooting. It may be very slow to reconnect.

Is there a known current problem with your ISP? Are all the computers on the network running firewalls? Could any other hardware on the network be downloading or similar?

I'm the only computer connected atm, and I see nothing downloading or updating.

Never had a problem with my ISP, my internet has always been really, really good.

Currently at 20k ping, took me like 5 mins to load this page....

I don't think I'll even be succesful in posting :S

It's worth checking your ISP's website- even the best ISPs have server failures sometimes.

The obvious suggestions are of course to clear your cookies, temp files, and DNS cache, and restart your computer.

My only other thought could be that one of your neighbours is being a jerk.

my vote is bt are fiddling with something nearby... or something broke on there end...

maybe it broke due to there fiddling? lol

Meh, soz for late reply, the internet went down completely. Apparently 5 doors down the internet isn't work there either, so I guess it's a fault with BT..

Well I've got an outage with o2 ATM I think; won't connect to any webpages but ping works fine to an ip(bit not a named address)

Try changing your DNS server feriso. Manually set them to 8.8.4.4 and 8.8.8.8

And this is why mobile wifi/bluetooth tethering is always a good backup

Actually I just discovered Samsung updated their bluetooth networking wizard. The help section for the connection setup requires an internet connection :-/

I was just wondering if anyone else is having a problem because again this morning it's not working, although last night about 8 onwards it was perfect.

30 mins ago it randomly turned CRAP again. Ping is 1k+ constant and won't go down...

Should I phone BT up? :S
