I'm after some information on this but I cant seem to find anything on google, I guess I must be searching for the wrong thing, but anyways...

I was wondering how aeroplanes access the internet and how this is accessed by the passengers and at what speeds? And also how many airlines/planes have this ability?

Any links to such information would be greatly appreciated.
Ta.

Thanks Melm0, I didn't search for that :o

I'm after some more recent and more technical data if possible but thats a good start, cheers.

Take a look into Boeing's Connexion service, before they pulled it due to it losing money hand over fist it offered ADSL speeds to the plane (5Mbps down 256kbps up) for about $10 an hour. Unsurprisingly the takeup both from airlines and passengers was low.

Thanks rpstewart have just finished looking at that before your post! Anyone know of information about the connection to the aircraft that isn't used by customers, i.e. used by pilots for whatever reason. How does this work or who is it supplied by?

I thought that got brought up by someone else (for the shipping industry)?
