This just started happening out of the blue. The internet is still connected, and yet the page just loads and loads but I get nothing. Happens in both Firefox and IE. The only thing that gets the connection back is restarting the computer. I've tried disabling firewall but still nothing. I'm using a wired connection btw.

As I write this, it's been ok for the past couple of hours. So not sure whether it's fixed or not. We'll see.

When it dies have you tried testing the connection using Ping?

It's worth Pinging your router, and somewhere external such as the BBC. If Pinging by domain name fails try using the IP address instead.

plug your ethernet cable into a different socket on the router until you get a stable connection. I saw this happen a couple of weeks ago with a netgear at parents friends house. spent ages troubleshooting. turned out the port on the router was faulty. Once i moved it, it was fine.
It was misleading because ping worked, dns worked, connection showed as up except IE/FF kept trying to load pages with nothing happening.
Let me know if this sorts it.
