I'm paying £29.99/month to BT so this is really bugging me

Technical support runs a test and it's always 'no problem' you are getting 6.5mbs... BUT I'M QUITE CLEARLY NOT..... web pages load so slow that 56k dial up would be better. I run speedtest.net and occasionally it will show a good speed ,6.5-7.0 mbs. But all today and this evening speedtest has shown 0.3 Down and 0.4 Up which is pathetic. My pc is wired to a Netgear DG834PN rangemax , with 2 other pcs also wired to it. The other pcs have the same problem, so it's not my pc. Can anybody suggest why BT get a good download test from their end, but I get a lousy one from this end ??

you sure it isnt someone connecting to your wireless router "illegally"?
as in a neighbour with wireless connecting? if you dont use the wireless i'd turn it off.

is it always slow at the same times every evening? and its fine other times such as in the morning and late night?

It's residential.
If it were at certain times like early evening I could understand it. But it seems to be at any time, even when you would think it would be quiet like midday.
This is what I just got from BT speedtest, but it does'nt bare any resemblance to reality.

IP profile for your line is - 5500 kbps
DSL connection rate: 448 kbps(UP-STREAM) 6848 kbps(DOWN-STREAM)
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 215 kbps

BT's fault threshold is 288kbs so get it reported, all the speedtests carried out through the BT speedtest can be accessed by BT tech by running a radius log check on the line....good luck with the call centres :)
