Hi,

I have been paid some money by an old lady (please don't laugh!) to fix her internet connection. She says her son tried for ages and couldn't fix it and I was like "LOL n00b". Anyway, so she paid me £10 and I really can't get the PC to work. I am pretty sure its not a hardware error as I have tried different cables and the ethernet seems to be working fine.

I am using my laptop through a CAT5 that plugs into her wall. My laptop connects through LOCAL AREA CONNECTION. It is 100% fine works perfectly.

When I plug her PC to the internet it just dies on me. The only page I can access is google sometimes, and the BBC website. I can click endlessly away on bbc website but the second I try to load Facebook or something it says

"The address is not valid"

There might be a typical error bleh blah it says. I've tried www.msn.co.uk, overclockers.co.uk, facebook.com and all websites give me the same error and sometimes say "No connection, Click here to diagnose problems". But then I can go back to BBC for example and its fine again.

Please help, I am getting nervous and her cat keeps looking at me and hissing "Hack!"

I am begging for help! I can reply quickly :)

Are you seeing an updating BBC home page, because it could just be that you are viewing pages from the browser history?

Who provides the internet connection?

What connection hardware is being used?

On the PC, I assume XP, go into Control Panel / Network Connections and look for Local Area Connection. Does that have status Connected?

Nope its not history or cached because the connex stopped working a week ago and it has stuff on it like the man united result from yesterday.

bt internet does

connection status is all good, says connected and all that shizzle

Is there any software on the computer that could be blocking the connection? Norton Internet Security, Windows Firewall, 3rd Party Firewall, BT Security etc etc. Switch it all off and see what happens.
