I've got this strange problem. Currently im using a Belkin F5D8636 but have had a problem with a bt home hub(white one).

The original problem i had with the bt hub was every so often the hub would loose internet connection and id normally have to restart the router to get internet back. i could normally access the router via ip tho.

I figured my hub was at fault and so i got a belkin from work.

This router is at a stupidly cheap price everywhere (i figured they were clearing stock but i'd imagine its because its a horrible router from experience).

Basically every so often (seems like several times a day) my internet / lan goes down. My pc says that its connected to the router (win 7 internet icon shows no error and the popup says connected internet access). I'm wired into the router. My brother suffers the same problem using wireless G on his laptop and his ps3.

If you try to ping the router it cant find it and cant access the routers config via ip in a browser. The router has all the usual lights on when this happens. We have to restart the router to fix it.

The router has the latest firmware and ive been through the options to see if anything could affect it but did not find anything.

Anyone have any idea where the problem lies. Is it with the router or maybe a device attached to the router?

I've heard that the latest bt home hub is much better. You could always ring them and see if you can get a new one if yours is faulty. Cheap belkin routers are also to be avoided!

mmmm, I think I see the problem here :p

Some Belkin routers have a serious overheating problem, we had one years ago that did the exact same random things. It was so bad I will never buy another piece of Belkin kit. I used to think they were a decent brand but I have no respect for them now.

Yeh i was suspicious about it but being what looked like a fairly decent n router i thought it would be ok.

I tried to get a new hub off bt but they refused lol despite the several times i complained mine wasnt working.

Some games have problems with bt home hubs anyway (impossible to play company of heroes online with one and you have to disable upnp for bfbc2 otherwise you get disconnected every 1/2 an hour).

If they refuse to give you a new one you could try grabbing one from the bay, its flooded with them for cheap.

i have a customer with the same issue on one of those, she has a desktop wired and a laptop wireless...

I also know someone else who I'm sure has that router gets the same problem..

if the wired machine cannot ping the router and at the same time the wireless machine looses its connection the router is faulty...

I've emailed belkin now but i suspect they wont be able to offer any useful help. Once i have their reply il just go and switch it for something decent.

Ok so ive just finished speaking to Belkin. Apparently this is problem that they know about and the way to fix it is this.

Logon to the router and click connection type. Click next. Down the bottom is "Disconnect after x minutes of no actvity". Mine was unchecked and had 5 greyed out. Their tech guy said to check the box, change it to 0 and then uncheck it. Click apply. Once it applies the changes should have 0 in the box but still unchecked / greyed out. I had to do this twice as the first time it didnt work. They say this is the way to fix it.

Only time will tell i guess.
