Internet TV Beta

I hadn't even noticed this...good bit of kit and an excellent add on in Windows Media Centre. Even has news as recent as this week :D

Nice concept, but I can't see me using it too much.

- Don't want to watch an American ad everytime I choose something to play
- Inserts ads during the programme
- Can't fast forward through ad's
- Poor picture quality when watching on a decent TV, probably quite good on a PC.
- Seems to reset zoom/aspect ratio each programme
- Needs to integrate with iPlayer, 4od etc
- Programme info sometimes reports wrong duration (edit: program info shows the "part" duration. E.g. a 30 min prog showed as 13mins...then showed an ad...then info showed 16 mins for part 2 - wasn't clear it was split into parts)

It could be quite good, and it is only a beta, but the ads will kill it for me - especially as you're forced to watch them and they're before every programme or clip which is too excessive - I could live with it if they were on a timer, or number of clips or sessions - something like when watching a playlist on MSN videos.

Ironic when MC lets you skip through ads on DVDs (like the annoying copyright ones) that you can't normally skip on a standalone DVD player

It'll depend on content, but at the moment TunerFreeMCE is a better bet for me - and I might look at this for music vids and trailers...with ads :groan:

TunerFreeMCE also has the MSN content in it which you can install without needing to have 7600 RTM.

People may also be interested in a tool called Media Center Studio which allows you to customise the W7MC menu.

Thanks for the info ;) I will be looking at this now.

Survivable on my 22", but not as good as freeview via an analogue tuner (so presumably nowhere near as good as it will be when we switch to digital)

I'd compare it to iPlayer low quality.
