Hi,

I am looking at taking out a new contract and getting a smart phone.
With the data allowance on offer which is normally 100Mb, 500Mb, 750Mb and 1Gb.
Is there a web site that will inform me what usage I will use for surfing, dowing loading, iPlayer etc ?

Usage will depend on what you watch, download etc so you'd be better off getting a usage monitor app on your phone which you can keep an eye on.

If you are just browsing/email, 500MB+ will be fine.

If you are going to be streaming anything (be it music or video), get as much as you possibly can.

Bear in mind that Wifi doesn't count towards this, so if you will be on Wifi a lot of the time you wont have any problems. I know it sounds obvious but you wouldn't believe the amount of people that think otherwise.

I will only time I will use the internet on the 3G network is at work in the winter watching the iPlayer.
We do not have WiFi at work and I have no clound area's near me either. So I do not know how much usage the iPlayer will take up !

Full desktop version of iplayer will blow through normal allowances in a couple of hours or so of viewing, you'd need a proper "tethering" dataplan for those. For mobile versions then average mobile plan is probably good for around 10 hours of viewing per month.

Well 10 hours of viewing per month is more than plenty for me.
The mobile deals I have seen at the moment are from 100Mb to 1GB !
My current provider wants to set me up on 100Mb, which I do think is a little mean. However T mobile will give me unlimited ( which is actually 1GB fair usage ) internet use.

I use mine to listen to lots of internet radio on the move, gotta love TMobile "unlimited" :)
