Anyone one got any idea on this at my dads house the speed is bad and i'm pretty sure it's the dongle because it works fine on the ethernet.

The staff at a local shop recommed the dongle but its giving these speeds

Real Stats

Modem Status Up
DownStream Connection Speed 18015
UpStream Connection Speed 979

What dongle is being used? How did he connect before?

Have you tried rebooting the router?

Microwaves, vacuum cleaners etc... are really good at giving interference (unless you use 5Ghz).

funny that I told him to get one of those but the guys at the shop said that one would be fine it was like £5 cheaper.

The opinion of guys in shops aren't worth £5.

Maybe buy him one anyway and show him how much better a proper dongle makes things, an early Father's day present or something :p

Did you get it sorted yet?

Seems strange to have full signal and such low speed, seems like an issue with the dongle or driver imo

Things involving wifi are sometimes quite difficult to diagnose in person, nevermind over the internet.

Homeplugs.
Meh, they are as on and off as wifi.

Drill a hole in the wall, Insert cat5, fit plug to both ends, plug into PC.
Get flat ethernet cable and slide it under the carpet... That's what I have done after months of wifi diagnostics and homeplug issues.

Am I right in thinking that most of the problem with dongles comes down to power?

Afterall USB only provides 500mA @ 5v (900mA for 3.0) and if you have other devices on the same bus then you're gonna have less since the load will be shared ?

Or have I got that completely wrong ?
