Right, finally determined that NTL do not provide cable to my new place, so DSL/LLU is looking our best option.

There will be 8 people using this connection so I want a fast connection (NTL 10Mb was looking ideal)

I was looking at Bulldog 16Mb for £25 (+£10 line) but it seems Bulldog are 'closing down' on the 1st July and only doing Wholesale LLU to other ISPs.

So basically, we are moving on the 1st, does anyone know who will be running these new 16Mb lines after Bulldog close shop to retail and will I be able to get it on or very close to the 1st?

Any help anyone has would be great, as I don't want to be internet-less for very long if at all possible.

Well, seems this exchange isn't LLU enabled yet (Southampton Exchange), which kinda puts the LLU idea on the back seat.

I suppose we're looking at MaxDSL now, but i've heard nothing but bad things about that :(

"You are approximately 1.64km from the exchange (straight line distance)."

I'm guessing a line length under 2.5km will be verging on a miracle?

"According to BT Wholesale, your line should be able to support a 5Mbps or greater ADSL connection via ADSL Max."

hmmm... something tells me that probably won't happen :p

Bulldog are still doing broadband, they're just not going to be actively marketing it. You can still sighn up with no problems whatsoever.

No LLU anyway mate, Bulldog are out the window now :(

Just a thought, seeing as the current tenants will be moving out like the day before us and we have no idea what the situation is with their internet, is it likely we'll need to get a mac code or whatever it is to be able to switch suppliers?

Nightmare aint it. We rang up our housing people to find out the situation and their answer to our question was

"Yes there is internet at the house"

Cheers... but their contract doesnt apply to us.... Are you not on the hampton exchange?

SO14, Just round the corner from Jesters, 1.64k from Southampton Exchange.

Will need to talk to the Agents and see what they have to say, if not, wander round to the house and chat to the guys there at the moment.

No. They should order a cease on their connection, and everything should get automatically ceased when the name changes on the line.

so even if it was possible to get the MAC then it wouldnt matter due to the name change on the phone line?

I'm in a similar position, and I think now it's going to be a case of simply start from scratch.

I'd of said so.

In theory you could get them to get a MAC, migrate using your name, then change the name on the line - giving the ISP advance warning. If you have an ISP with a clue they might be able to stop it.

Seems the house is already on Bulldog

Muchos confused now :(

If we were to phone Bulldog ad explain what is going on, do you reckon they would keep the connection open and jsut switch names over etc. ?

Oh bugger I forgot they do slower services...

Trouble is, i'm getting all this information secondhand you see.

right, had a phonecall back from tennant link, the phone no of the house is: 02380 XXXXXXX
