Interstellar rant

I watched this last night and really enjoyed it.

I'm a fan of Brian Cox etc, but if you park all the questionable science to one side it stands up on story alone. Genuine suspense, surprise, and I didn't guess the ending.

Sometimes you need to look beyond the film and appreciate a good story.

Great soundtrack too.

You didn't guess the ending in a film about time travel/dilation ? :P

i guess a little knowledge on the subject creates huge spoilers.

Your telling me you guessed that he would end up inside a 3D representation of a 5D universe after traveling into a black hole, and that the handshake from earlier on was him, and that he'd somehow survive?

Also, are you trying to say I'm stupid?

2001 a Space Odyssey was an excellent film all the way until they went inside the black hole (the through the obelisk, travelled faster than light to the hotel thing where Bowman transcended his humanity).

Interstellar was great sci-fy. But aren't we missing the fiction aspect here?

The best bit about the 'suspension of disbelief' is not picking so many holes in someone else's imagination that the light of reality shines through, ultimately leaving us with more boring answers than intriguing questions.

Amen brother. If all fiction was based on fact (or what we currently understand to be fact) then it'd be damn boring...

Watched this for a 2nd time after finding it a bit abhorrent in the cinema, but wondered if I had harshly judged it.
One thing I can't get my head round, and is a key to the films story is there selection of which planet to go to.

They choose the one with the water and organics, but during the whole scene said that time would be a resource. 2 of the 4 planets lay outside the horizon of the blackhole, whilst two were subject to time dilation.
Their objection from visiting one of the lesser suitable planets was that it would take months to get there. Which baffles my brain when they further tell you that the mavity will cause 7years per 1hr on the closer planets. The black dude even admits to wanting to do research for 2 years!!!
Further to this, Cooper who is the one who wants to go home is the person most adamant to ignore everyone and choose the two planets on the horizon of the blackhole. Even Brant is saying go to the planet that isn't near this horrendous mavity kill blackhole, (albeit via stupid love theory), and he still won't go.

Getting to a less suitable planet in months or going to the closer planet and in theory only have about 10 minutes to get to the surface and back.
Was this a glaring hole in the plot or did I misinterrupt what the hell they were saying?

Not to mention that following this, they are on a planet which they can't move on swiftly in suits (@ 130% G) and don't use the robot that run at 30mph to retrieve the box, WTF?
Not to mention that they said that they were receiving pings from the planet, yet they would have only received fractions of the amount of other planets, since in the dialation the astronaut would have only been there for an hour and a half.

I honestly enjoyed the film until they entered the wormhole, and then it was if it took a ridiculous nosedive. Why I just don't know.

Now this is on Amazon Prime, I've watched it & I'm more confused than I was watching the Matrix, clearly too simple a mind to comprehend the science behind what the movie portrayed.

I just take it as 3/4 good with a great story and excellent premise, once the fluffy teddy bear ending comes out for the last 1/4 though its awful and totally ruinous.

Agree with most here. Film is one of Nolans best up until the last half hour. I've said it before and I'll say it again, he's one of the most competent Directors working today, but he's one of the worst when it comes to portraying authentic emotional beats. He's like an android who's had the concept of the core emotions explained to him. He either completely over eggs it or undersells it to the point where it voids the rest of the plot of any genuine sense of humanity.

Not sure how anyone fell asleep during this, I recall the music being insanely loud to the point I couldn't hear the dialogue. Though that was in the cinema.

Just watched Interstellar., the best movie in sense of direction ive seen in a while since django unchained. I have so many questions about though, most of it mind boggiling.

I guess time and space for the simple minds is hard to understand, but was the movie accurate in terms on what happened and the physics applied? I don't have much knowledge here, but is there an answer to the ending, which a sequel will be leading upto?

ALL HAIL movies that involve space.

Does this really constitute a rant? Your ranting skills are weak, buddy.

Also, the movie was 99% fiction 1% science. No point really trying to "comprehend" the physics in it, any more than, say, The Terminator.
