Well, I've got two interviews coming up in the next two weeks and being 17, these are the first proper interviews that I've had.

I was planning on just wearing smart trousers, shirt and a tie instead of a full suit but I'm not sure which would be best. The interviews are with Royal Bank of Scotland and CIS but basically they're customers service/phone jobs so I don't know whether it would be a bit OTT going the whole hog?

Also, I've got to take along quite a bit of paper/forms, would a briefcase be a good thing or will a smart bag do?

Cheers :)

A suit would be ideal especially for "traditional" companies such as those

a birefcase is not really neccessary but maybe a simple document wallet would look good

I've always thought that regardless of the job dress smart, I have always gone to job interviews in a suit, shirt + tie, shiny shoes.

First impressions are everything, and it shows your attitude towards other things like keeping yourself etc.

Get a file, plastic case thingy for the documents! Make sure that top button is done! and give it your best...!

Suit it is I guess. Also, I have no idea what a simple document wallet is or where the hell I would get one :D. Know of places which sell them?

Go for a suit dude.

I went for a job interview once in a smart pair of trousers and a smart shirt with a light jacket on....everyone else was wearing a suit. I felt like a pleb :(

Something similar to that -

A recent interview I had, with an IT outsourcing company, I turned up looking traditionally smart and got interviewed by a director wearing grotty jeans and faded t-shirt that let his belly hang out. It was like getting interviewed by Rab C Nesbitt, except Rab doesn't drive a Carrera S.

My sister manages a bank branch and says she would politely sit through an interview with someone not suited, but wouldn't invest any real effort in the interview.

Go in tracki bottoms and an Adidas hoody innit ;)

Nah, shirt, trousers, tie, shoes, blazer jacket if you're cold :)

You laugh, but my mum recently had a job interview for a secretary job at a local primary school, and 1 of the other interviewees turned up in matching white tracksuit, trainers, AND matching baseball cap.
I was waiting in the car for my mum to finish and this girl walked out before her. When I found out she'd been for the interview too I nearly ******myself!

On topic, wear a suit if you've got one!

Right another question for you all about suits as I don't currently have one :p.

Most probably going to go to Marks & Sparks for a suit as I haven't got a huge budget for a tailored one but I'm unsure on what style to get?

I'm thinking a dark, pinstripe suit with a pastel shade shirt and tie. Good/bad?

2/3 button single breasted black/charcoal suit

white shirt

simple tie

If you can't afford M+S then get to matalan , you will pick one up for about 50-60 quid, won't be the best in the world but will still look fine for an interview, will not last as long as a good one though
