Interview on the 27th and I'm away, what to do??

Guys I've been offered and interview on the 27th of this month and I'm on holiday.

I've already spoken with the HR department and they will 'see what can be done' as they understand August is a holiday month.

The thing is I've been after a way into the company for months (Wessex Water) have I blown it??

Advice please chaps.

Pooing though a letterbox is not an option.
 
If the company doesn't understand that you've booked a holiday (flights, hotel etc.) then to be honest they don't sound like they'd be worth working for. This shouldn't even be an issue? Tell them you're away, they can reschedule. Easy. Again, if they think ill of you for that then I wouldn't want to work for them..
 
Depends, the company might need the candidate reasonably soonish so you being unable to attend an interview might put you in the discard pile.

If it's a job you really want, you'll have to forgo your holiday.
 
Depends on the role and how much they want you/the amount of applicants they have. The company will probably see this as a 'oh well... Onto the next candidate' situation.

How long are you away for? If you're back a few days after the interview, it won't be an issue. If you're back a couple of weeks later, you might miss the recruitment window.
 
Seriously? call them and reschedule.

Do you really want to work for a company that will force you to cancel a holiday for a interview? The answer is no.

I hope you haven't been sitting on this for a few days because it will look bad if you have, sooner you tell them the better.
 
Can't see it being an issue so it is not unreasonable to ask for a reschedule as you already have a holiday booked.
 
Depends where your holidaying, if it's Skegness, cancel your holiday, if you're got flights booked for somewhere then go on holiday and reschedule the interview.
 
Speak to them asap to explain you have a prior commitment that week so are unable to attend and would appreciate if they could reschedule. The more you stew on it the less time they have to rearrange something (and the more they will feel like being kept in the dark and being informed last minute - possibly making them question your communication skills?).

But, it might also be worth offering alternatives - does your accommodation offer wifi? Could you offer to do the interview via Skype? Or even just offer a phone interview? Wifi will obviously be the cheaper option for you, at the risk of arranging it before you get there and have an idea how reliable the connection is.

ideally don't say something like "well, I might be away, but I'm unsure" as it sounds like you're indecisive and possibly don't even have anything booked yet.

As others have said - if they're inflexible with moving the date or not allowing a phone interview, then realistically, do you want to work for them? If they're unhelpful when they're trying to recruit then it will likely be worse when you're working there.
 
Where/what is the holiday?

As beachBOYken has said, if it's a long weekend camping then considering cancelling it. If you've booked £4k worth of flights and a 4 star hotel in the maldives then it would be unreasonable of them to expect you to re-arrange that
 
As I said in the Opening post, I have already called them waiting for a call back now.

My wife works for them in the offices but this is a manual position dealing with customers (power jetting) and pays very well compared to my current employment.
