interview technique?

is there any good websites or books about interview technique?

Also is there any railway employees, or people who know about the industry who could talk to me on msn?

Thanks in advance..

Go to the companies website and digest as much as you can, a favorite question is what do you know about the company.

I find that eye contact, not slouching, showing interest and remember that YOU are interviewing THEM as well.

If you are interviewed by some rude, powertripping suit wearer do you want to work for them?

Too right, I told many an interviewer to go **** themself and walked out during an interview because I'm prepared to work hard to get where I wanna be, I'm not prepared to kiss arse.

Need a rant, well had the interview and guess what didn't get it, wasn't interview technique or qualifications.

They thought the job was below me and that it wouldn't be varied enough and the office wouldn't suite my hands on approach.

FFS I've done data entry in the past and nothing can be below lorry unloader or shovel technician.
I think I would prefer them to say I was crap than those reasons

I mean how can a job that will take a decade to train for be below me.

Not a happy bunny.

Unlucky mate,

You will get crappy excuses like that for random reasons, they might not even be the real reasons behind it.

What are you trying to get into exactally and I'll try and give pointers if I can.

Unlucky dude. :(

I've heard quite a few people talking about this "over qualified thing", and I totally don't understand it.

They are looking for someone long term, if you are over qualified for the job then they will just see you using them as a stop gap till you find something better.

It sucks but does happen.

we had a good chat, I'm 100% sure those are the reasons, unlike some companys come back. it was an engineering based job.

seen this happen before, stuff like your over qualified.
the guy who interviewed you is afraid that you will be the one to replace him come a couple of years down the line.
bet your wondering how dumb people land good jobs and the smart ones anre left out? same method i use when hiring staff. make sure you get someone whats good enough for the job but not smart enough to progress high enough to even challenge you.
harsh yes but thats life.

these are the only instances where lying become acceptable, you then have to proceed to tell them that this is and area you really want to move into etc, and can really see your self staying here.

But some people will see through you.

I made sure I did that, the thing is they don't thing the job will be under me eventually, just for the first few years, whilst training. There main point was I work outside and they don't think I would suit an office environment, I saw there change in expression when these was changed and I thought I said enough to calm there fears over the office bit, but obviously it stayed in there mind.

added you too msn.

See the fact you work out side will bring a lot to your engineering work, if design related, you know how things should be handled and it will give you and insight to what goes on the mind of the site people when they have to change a battery or something and you have it encased in 4 layers of cables and pipes.

Practical experience is one of the most sought after engineering traits, in railways, offshore etc.

Aeropsace and highly demanding structural design or fluid dynamics its less appropriate but still some is needed.

You just have to keep applying mate and hopefully something will come up.

They asked me this question directly, "Do you see yourself in this role a couple years further or do you think you may get bored by then?" and I answered that if there was room for my creativity i should not get bored. They then said explicitly that there is room for creativity, yet they choose not to hire me in the end....
