Hello people!

I am about to buy a Macbook Pro :D with the following specs:

2.2Ghz C2D
4GB RAM
NVidia 8600M GT 256MB

It's pretty similar to the specs of my XPS M1530 except is has a faster CPU. I would like to dual boot it with Windows 7 so I can play my Steam games on there, is performance going to be equivilent to my laptop or do Macs run slower?

I have no idea with these as I have never owned a Mac before, how do I go about dual booting? I know you can get some kind of virtual environment for Windows but I know from experience that virtual environments don't work for games so just need to know some info and having a native Windows partition set-up for dual booting.

If you can wait a few weeks i would wait, there will be a hardware refresh soon which will get you a lot more bang for your buck (i5/i7 CPU etc).

As for the dual boot, all you do is go into Finder, open up Bootcamp, select the size you want for your windows partition, put in the disc and the comp will restart to the standard windows instalation. Install windows and hey presto, dual boot :)

I'm not looking to buy new as I only have a £500 budget and don't think the i7 etc will affect the resale value on the older models much anyway?

Windows runs natively. All "Bootcamp" is is a partitioning tool to make it simple for the average user to install Windows.

I run Windows 7 on a 2.8Ghz, 4GB, 9600m GT MBP and performance is simply awesome. Well happy with it. :D

Brilliant, wil be picking up my one on Friday hopefully. Only thing is that its has the 8600M which are known for their failures. One thing I will be doing it installing my current HDD as it is blisteringly fast for a non-SSD and I'll need the extra storage space.
