So ive been clearing up and doing some filing today on my computer, and downlaoded program which basically tells you where all the data on your computer is, so you can track down which folders have loads of stuff on them and clear them out etc.

Weirdest thing was though, I looked at my external HDD and there was like 150gig in one folder, 150gig in another then it says theres 45 gigs in the recycle bin.

Now as far as I know it doesnt have a receycle bin, and theres nowhere you can see it or look in it or nothing, so whats going on. Is there one or not and if so how do ig et to it to clear it.

Thanks

ALL deleted files will go into the recycle bin. You can limit the amount of space a drive has to keep deleted files by right-clicking on the recycle bin and clicking on properties, or you can even set a drive to delete files permanently and not be sent to the recycle bin.
If you can't see the recycle bin. right click(on the desktop), personalize, change desktop icons and make sure recycle bin in ticked. Hope that helps, otherwise I'm not sure what you mean. normally just running ccleaner will remove all deleted and temporary files etc.. for you
The only other thing i can think of is that you have some hidden files.

Well thing is it's an external hdd so theres nothing I can do on the desktop.

Cheers though.

someone asked a question about the recycle bin yesterday....

It isn't 1 folder - it's a folder on each partition your PC has. So something deleted on the external drive would live in the recycle bin on that drive.

The icon on your desktop should take you to a folder showing the combined contents of each individual recycle bin.

The exception to this relates to folder ownership. Windows won't show you files deleted via another user. So you may need to check the permissions tab of the external drive to try and take ownership of its contents and then you can delete stuff.
