Hello Everyone,

After receiving numerous replies and questions about my recent post titled: AMD: FAQ for Project FreeSync is up I thought it would be helpful to have my colleague Robert Hallock (a.k.a. Thracks) hold a Q & A Session with everyone here. As some of you may know Robert has played a critical role in Project FreeSync and is the author of the FAQ.

Hence, I’d like to invite you to join me and Robert Hallock on Friday, August 22 at 06:00PM (UK Time)/11:00AM (US Time) for the Q & A Session.

The session will last for one hour. We will do our very best to answer your questions during the session; as such please wait for the session to start before posting your questions.

The name of the thread will be: “AMD Project FreeSync: Q & A with Robert Hallock”. I will start the thread approximately one hour before we start.

Meanwhile, please check out the existing FAQ as we have updated some of its content already.

Be an idea to stay in touch with the moderators while it's live to keep things clean and strictly q&a, given the state of this place lately it could easily turn into a 500 comment circlejerk/repetitive argument inside the first 2 questions :)

The picture makes me laugh every damn time I see it. I'm looking forward to some new freesync info though, especially if you can tell us the name you intend to brand it under!

I'm guessing it will just be called A-Sync and there will be a sticker on compliant monitors. Most important thing I think is to ask if they know if within DP1.3 if Async is still optional in VESA specification. If it was just a case of buying a DP1.3 screen that would be great.

I think he means what AMD will call their way of connecting to an Adaptive sync monitor.

It is a requirement of 1.3 and optional on 1.2a according to everything I have read.

You can just buy a 1.3 screen, but you still need a compatible graphics card.

How do you know? As far as I'm aware you can't see the spec unless you're a member of VESA. Would be great if that was the case.

I knew what he meant, but I don't think AMD will call it anything! I think it will simply be a panel within CCC relating to a-sync :), but I could well be wrong

Which part are you asking how do I know? If it's how do I know it will a requirement of DP 1.3? Well I have to do a search but I remember an AMD guy saying that it was a feature of edp 1.0 and display port 1.3. It was around the time of the Freesync Demo. And I am guessing since AMD are on the VESA board of directors that they would know.

But, maybe not.

hmm, you are right they probably won't call it anything. Just have an option under digital flat panels section.

Surely they would have to give it a name for the next year or two at least given the relatively limited card models that fully support it?

The entire GPU Line up should be changed by the time this hits the shops.

Robert would correct me on this if its wrong no doubt, all the new cards should have full support, so far existing GPU's with full support = R7 260X, R9 290 and R9 290X.

Coming soon, R9 285 and R9 285X, that just leaves the lower mid level cards like the R9 270 and R9 270X.
