ios Remote app, but for Desktop

The IOS Remote app is excellent, for those who dont know it;s like Itunes on your ipad or iphone, but it plays your music out your main PC through your HIFI, controlled from your iphone.

Is there any app I can use on a laptop (Mac or PC, preferably both) that does the same thing.

Obviously I can remote in with VNC etc, but this isn't the same, and it sucks.

I can share my library and play it but it plays on the laptop instead of through the main PC.

Have i missed something and this feature is already in itunes ?

I guess you could buy an airport express and setup the itunes sharing to play through airtunes through the Hifi?

I'm sure there'll be a better option though.

Well I have a fanless, silent, PC setup with a highquality sound card and high quality stereo. I dont want to have to buy a new bit of hardware as I have the hardware. Just some kind of remote interface like the squeezebox software.

I can't recommend anything personally but there seems to be quite a few choices if you google "iTunes remote control windows".

Your choice ranges from apps to widgets to scripts which should all do what you're looking for.
