Either on an app-by-app basis, e.g. Spotify is best on iOS, or iOS has the best apps overall.

I'd make a poll but I can't seem to so perhaps a nice moderator could add a poll with the options:

  • iOS
  • Android
  • Windows Phone

Curious to hear your thoughts.

I recently got an ipad mini 2, and the iPad eBay app was by far the best eBay app I'd ever used. It was in fact significantly better than the website, until eBay killed it off and updated it, removing all the nice convenient features.

As for everything else, I find the back and menu buttons on Android phones and tablets invaluable for getting around, and as much as I think my iPad is the best over all mobile computing experience, the lack of universal black and menu buttons at the bottom of the device the most frustrating part.

For me I have use of a Samsung Note and iPhone 5. I find the apps to be good on both but I find the IOS store to be easier to navigate for me and has less rubbish apps

I have to say Android, and Google Play, on the whole.....but then iOS is very close.
I have had mostly Android phones, latest being Note Edge, but use an iPad Air as my tablet of choice. Prior to the Edge, I gave Windows a whirl with a Lumia 930 and did struggle a bit with apps, meaning several were either less functional or simply not available.
All in all, I prefer Google's world, but as a recent iOS user I can see that there is not much in it. Windows Phone offers a lot - I love many aspects of the OS - but is so far behind that it often became frustrating :(

Having used iPhone 4 and 5 and used several Android phones. ( Currently use LG G3)

I have to say i find iOS apps better.

Switched to a Windows moby a couple of weeks back & Love it, One thing I've noticed is on my old S3 Gmail/Ebay/Facebook pushes came about 10 mins after my PC where as on my Windows moby they come through exactly the same time as on my PC.
For me if Windows has it then it does exactly what it says on the Tin where as you have to search through a bucket load of **** to get what you want on Android.
I'd rather have a few Apps that work perfectly than a bazillion that don't. Each to there own though a. :)

Apple has the best app ecosystem by a country mile.

This, despite preferring windows and android.
Apple clearly wins. And will continue to do so.
Mainly as there is so few handsets it is easy to build and test on and it has enough market share to make it viable.

Android has two issues, people can not pay for it and there's a million and one handsets to test on. But a huge market share.

Windows is in the middle for handsets, with tight controls on hardware. But market share is severely lacking.

IOS apps normally seem a bit more polished. And it seems some developers like to push out IOS updates before Android (that ive found at least). But I much prefer the android app store(s). Now that Amazon has it own app store and other 3rd party apps stores have a slice of the action, there is such a huge variety of apps, small or large. I also think GP gives the opportunity to small developers to push out apps on the cheap, to see whether or not they want to spend the money to publish it to IOS. I do agree apple has a very nice, polished app store, but I feel its slightly limited by the range of apps somewhat.

With a rooted android device you can expand the app scope to loads of utilities that need root rights, doing backups and doing some deep config is a breeze. It really allows you to use your device exactly how you like it.

The one thing I don't like about GP is the sorting of apps. In the games category is a mainly games with the odd app in it, but in the app category is equally a load of apps and a load of games. I know a game still counts as an app, but I wish they categorised it better, so that more apps lower in the ratings reach the main page.

Have never tried WP, so can't comment on that.

Never really understood the iOS vs Playstore argument. There is not a single app i miss when i moved from iOS to Android.

Google Play Store offers everything i want so even though iOS may have more apps that is no use to me as i have all the apps i need and use available to me on Android.

Material design looks much nicer than iOS offerings to me.

I also find XDA developers offer fast bug fixes and updates as does Google.

Android offers me more control and i can do what i please.

Only really used Android and Windows phone, so it would be unfair of me to vote.

I can say that the Windows Store is god-awful though. Shows up with 99% useless things with 2 user ratings. Can't browse by developer. At least this is my experience on my Surface. I quickly wrote off the Store as pointless.

Only used ios and android but in terms of app store vs Google play I wouldn't say there is anything in it.

Apps seem a little more stable on ios but given the devs have only a handful of devices to cater for they should be.

As far as app availability for me android wins, example I'm currently using rsync to pull a boat load of files from my office backup location

iOS looks old and dated and with those pastel colours looks like a ladies phone, good app store though.

Android is a cess pit of malware and adware, after a while your phone or tablet will be at a crawl for no reasons unknown.

Windows Phone looks nice and is malware immune. App stores a bit crap but its catching up. The integration of the main apps and the OS is superb. All the main apps are there.

FIGHT!

Windows apps when done right are great, best of all. But often lack as a after thought. Microsoft have best best consistent experience.

Android suffers from iOS conversions, some apps have iOS style buttons and don't look native.

iOS is horrible in places, navigation is weird and since iOS 7 buttons are tricky to work out where they are.

If mobile gaming is your thing then I find the iOS platform to be slightly better, otherwise anything you find on iOS is also available on Android. I can't talk for the Windows ecosystem as I've never used it.

I'll say one thing though, is those who convert their apps from one ecosystem to another without giving thought to the design can get the hell away from Android. There are still some apps out that suffer from this, but it's nothing compared to how it was before, it's fairly equal between both iOS & Android.

I'm voting Apple. Personally I far prefer Android but the Apple apps seem more polished possibly because there are a limited number of devices that need to be supported.
