Hello all,

I have someone I want to ban from seeing a website I have running due to them being a pain in the bum in the past.

He is on BT and i have his dynamic ip address.

Is there any way I can do this at all please web gods?

Thank you

Jon

Yes, but it'll be worthless when his IP changes or he uses a proxy :)

Okay, well i suppose i could try banning using wild card's, but that might stop others getting to my site too. Bit of a shame that, thanks though

Couldn't you ban his MAC Address?

I heard someone saying this in the past, and they seemed to think if one was to do this (through an ActiveX control I think) that the person would be banned until they used a different network device.

I don't know if it would work though.

You could try banning the user's apparent MAC address, but I think you might be a little surprised about how networks work and need to do some very quick reading :[

Banning by MAC address won't work, as MAC addresses are only used much further down in the OSI model layers. This means that the MAC address is not visible past the first hop of his packets.
