A bit of an odd one and perhaps not strictly fitting for the forum, but I figure I've got more chance of finding an answer here than anywhere else.

I'm looking for a proximity card based access control system that does it's communication over IP.

He have two large sites where running new cable is not economical and we cannot use existing structured cabling because most extremities are linked with fiber. So the idea comes that perhaps an IP based system would do the trick without masses of cabling.

Have any of you used or seen such a system?

Mitrefinch TMS controls our access and time management onsite. All readers are RFID based proximity card readers and are IP based. Remote turnstiles and barriers are connected to local switches and then passed back to our central switch over fibre. Goes across the WAN to our central hosting location for processing.

Each terminal can hold 10k events when disconnected from the network to allow for any interruption in traffic. Local copies of authorisation lists are held so they will work offline without updates in the event of loss of network connection.

Lots of serious Access Control solutions are IP based and integrated into IP cameras and so on. The killer is that they are generally only sold alongside professional services to install and support.

Contact a reputable access control or security company and they will be able to help.
