After having my car bumped into twice now in as many weeks whilst parked outside my house, I'm looking at an ip camera in the upstairs bedroom looking through the window to monitor the street.
I think I need an ethernet connection as I'm near a switch, although wifi would be ok, maybe an sd card slot to record when movement is detected, or do they upload to a pc? Can anyone recommend anything, ideally under £100

Im hoping the window wont effect the picture much, the road is 8 metres away & I dont really want an outdoor device. A quick google suggest the dlink 942 may do the job, will continue to investigate.

To answer other questions... If you are near a switch then a cable connection would be far better than WiFi. You can set them to record to a shared drive on a NAS or a shared folder on a computer that is on the same network and powered on at the times you wish to record.
Motion sensing may be a bit hit and miss behind your window at the distance you mention. It may be better to just constantly record then delete the files every couple of days when you know you don't need the files perhaps?
Another thing to consider, you may not be able to get sufficient picture quality at that dustance mounted indoors to identify a number plate. The picture can be affected by the glare of the reflection of the infrared light when mounted behind a window.
