IP35 issues (onboard network and sata)

Hi All,

This is my first post so be gentle!
I only just recently got a new IP35 motherboard (not the pro or E version).
I've been working fine until just a few days ago when my pc locked up and I lost network connection via the onboard Marvell Yukon. I tried rebooting, uninstalling the drivers, disabling and re-enabling the device to no avail.
The weird thing is it reports back no problems within windows however when I plus a patch cable into the ethernet port, no lights come on for network activity and therefore it detects no network.

Here's a bit more background for you, i just also purchased a BFG 8800GTX and have installed that, would the fx card be taking too much power possibly?
I have a Hyper 530 power supply which has seems to have enough power.

This just all seems strange after putting int he net fx card.

ALSO, my newish SATA DVD rewriter just started reporting as gobbledegook on the drive check at startup, basically it shows up as a row of weird characters rather than the name of the drive when listing the SATA devices.

Any help would be appreciated,

thanks in advance,

Chris

Random letters as the drive name is typically caused by a clash of drives with jumpers setting them both to Master or Slave, though thats harddrives and I dont know how it works with regards to SATA DVD writers.

Also, have you checked to make sure that every port on your motherboard and gfx card that needs a power cord plugged into it has got one? I remember when I was installing my IP35 + gfx card, had to keep checking the manuel to make sure I was plugging the right power cord into the right hole, and that every hole that needed one, got one.

Fraid I cant be more help, im sure the more experienced folk will have seen this before and offer up some advice ^_^

I must admit i'm not sure if every power port is plugged in on the board, the IP35 board seems to have loads of power ports. The one that wasn't plugged in when I was running normally was the 4 pin molex next to the PCIE x 1 slot.
I've plugged it in now (after the issues started to occur) but no difference, that may just be the power for the PCIE express bus.

Long shot at the netword card....

Go to start > run and type cmd and then OK.
At the prompt (>) type ipconfig/all and hit enter.
That will tell you if its connected or not and give you its Physical Address. (mac numbers)

Does it do that?

yup, gives me a physical address but obviously says "Media disconnected"

Hmm
It don't sound good.
If everything is set up OK, then either the nics died or it may have somehow got the wrong mac address.
The mac address it written on the motherboard (on a sticker).
I think its this one (sticker on ethernet port) but write down all the numbers on the board just in case.
Write down the digits on the sticker, and check they match what what you get at ipconfig/all.

There may be a way to flash it back if it has somehow got lost.
They do get lost, but it's rare if you haven't flashed the BIOS.

right, i'll check that out tomorrow, i flashed the bios a month or so back, but only just got this since the addition of the new fx card. I just got a better psu today which solved my SATA issues, but the onboard network controller remains unconnected with no lights when I plug in the ethernet.

no its not, well it is now because I got fed up with it as i couldn't fix it. I think i'm gonna buy myself a new P5K deluxe and RMA this one

Don't just RMA it, we can try and fix this :)

I have the same board, it should have 3 power conenctions plugged in.
1) the 4 pin molex above the PCI-E port, the 24 pin motherboard one and a 6 pin above the CPU socket.
2) Once you changed the power supply the SATA started working, might have a lose connection somewhere? It happens to the best of us, so try pushing everything home, including the sata data cables?
3) Flash to the latest BIOS 16, it sorted a lot of my problems out

Bit off-topic, but your Sig can only be four lines :)

tried a different patch cable, sounds more like a dodgy rj45 plug (at either end, not just the computer)? also what are plugging it into; a router? try some other devices with the cable and different ports on the router, what about try adding a pci network card

sorry if that came across as patronizing, but its best to cover all bases

can also recommend a bios update, fixed a couple of my issues (although non related to network or sata)
