hi,

Just putting together a system upgrade from an Abit AA8 Duramax to the IP35 Pro. On my old board i used to have 2 Samsung Spinpoint 500GB drives in ahCI mode, non raid and they worked fin. On my new board the BIOS will only see the 2 drives if its in IDE mode. as soon as I put it to AHCI both drives disappear.. Anyone have any ideas why as I just cant figure it out.

Or does it really matter that much?

Thanks

Which ports are you using on the motherboard, it needs to be 1-4 AFAIK

Does the system actually work when the drives are in AHCI mode? ie can you get it to boot or install an OS (with the appropriate drivers)?

You have to install windows with the set to AHCI in BIOS and use F6 AHCI drivers, had this problem earlier this week.
Abit make it hard to get the drivers onto the floppy, used Gigabyte website for Intel AHCI drivers in the end.

When I enable AHCI in BIOS all hard drives are greyed out and there is nowhere to start the installation. I've installed using IDE mode so I'll probably stick with that.

I installed to a new HD and was not given the option of a full format. The only option was 'format'. Clicking on that resulted in a quick format. How do I get a 'full' format.

SUKH Thanks for the info. Seems a bit too complicated for the gain.

For AHCI mode you'll need to give the OS installer the appropriate SATA controller drivers, they'll be on the CD which came with the board.

I don't get the opportunity to give it any drivers. It hangs just after POST because it see's no HDs.

just so we are exactly clear on this, it never boots from the cd

just crashes when detecting hdds after its done cpu and ram?

Thats correct it just stops at the end of POST. I'm now happy enough with IDE, thanks for the input.

Hmm interesting.

I have Ip-35 pro as well and I'm running all the drives in IDE mode.
