IP35 Pro and Bios 16 problem

I have had an occasional problem booting with bios 14 in that it got as far as loading the Jmicron driver then froze, a couple of resets would fix it but the problem was getting worse.

When I found there was a bios upgrade available (16), so I flashed the bios using the floppy method which went fine. I have also been able to set my overclock to 3.1ghz as it was before.

I noticed my fans were running flat out all the time which they never did before, I double checked all the control settings were as before.

The problem is the reported cpu temp is all wrong, uGuru in the bios (don't use the software as had problems) says 65 deg C. If I run Everest it shows the same cpu temp but all 4 cores are at 36-38 deg C so all seems well with my cpu. Prior to the bios upgrade the cpu temps were all OK, in fact the reported temp tended to be a bit below the core ones.

Is something wrong here and does anyone have an idea what I can do about it? I suppose I could revert to bios 14 but am reluctant to be flashing the bios repeatedly.

Thanks
Gordon

My BIOS always gives me a temp of 36 for my CPU (E8400), however the uGuru widget (which supposedly takes its temps from the BIOS) gives me varying temps, idling at 28! Don't trust the BIOS ;)

16 and 17 were coded for the 45nm chips, hence the messed up CPU temp with the Q6600.

But other than that, they should be fine with a Q6600 (tho I find that 14 is a better overclocker with the Q6600).

16 beta 2 is meant to be the best for q6600 though the best non beta bios is reported as been 14.

The offical 16 bios is not as good for q6600 overclocking but if it's fixes a bug you have and want to get rid off then no choice I suppose.

18.2 or 18.3 beta is the latest but not read reports on how they perform with a q6600 yet.

The 18 betas are for the IP35-E (and thus the standard IP35).

v17 Beta 04 is still the latest for the IP35-Pro. It seems to be ok, but I can't get Virtualization running with it, so I'm running 17 b02 with my Q9450.

Thanks guys

It's reassuring to hear there's nothing wrong with my MB. I have managed to get control of the fans by altering the temps in the high and low settings so all is well at the moment.

I might try one of the newer 17 betas though, and see how I get on.

Thanks again.
