iPad 2 - any news on jailbreak?

Does it look like there will be an easy to implement jb for iPad 2? I've searched and get the impression that there might not be a solution.

Reason I ask is that someone I know will fairly frequently use an iPad stand and bt keyboard. In that configuration, a bt mouse just makes sense. I don't understand why Apple doesn't get that.

Thanks

There is a jailbreak for the iPad 2, but it depends what firmware you're on.

EDIT: I just re-read your post, what do you mean an easy way? you either use redsn0w and have your iPad plugged in to a PC or Mac. Or you use Jailbreakme, which you do on your iPad

I didn't have iPad 1 so I'm not familiar with the process, but I read that there is a jb for iPad 1 that is very simple to implement when tethered (just a few clicks) and has no potential for problems.

Yeah I read that there's a jb for iPad 2 that requires that you don't update to certain os or firmware or something and then you're stuck with that version. That would be what I would consider not doable.

I don't see why Apple doesn't just allow for it. They would sell a few more mice.

What have mice got to do with a jailbreak?

you either connect it to your pc to jailbreak or you do it via safari, it all depends on what firmware your on

JB allows connecting a bt mouse to iPad. When using with a stand and bt keyboard, using a mouse is ergonomic. My friend will relatively frequently use her iPad in that configuration.

Lol zero point buying an iPad then. People only use a keyboard when typing extensive notes etc (ie no need to keep repositioning your cursor or whatever).

Apple don't allow mice for a good reason, ie it goes against the design of the UI completely.

And if the person also really likes the tablet-way, then no point getting a notebook. I don't see the problem with accommodating for mouse use when using the bt keyboard. Apple makes the bt keyboard for special cases where they need to type more... why not also an optional mouse? As you're typing w/keyboard it's more awkward to reach toward the screen than simply shift your hand over to the mouse, especially when one is using the iPad stand.

If a mouse goes against the design then so does a keyboard and stand that puts the iPad in a "monitor" orientation.

edit: btw this involves a person who wants to take only one mobile device with them that has everything on it that can be a tablet and a notebook. And she really likes the iPad. It is almost perfect... It would be perfect for her if Apple allowed mouse use also not just keyboard and stand use.

There's a difference. iPad doesn't have a cursor, so what would the mouse move on screen? It is a touch UI after all, a mouse cursor would just make no sense.

Apple make the keyboard for the iMac, not the iPad. It's just a perk that it is bluetooth, and able to be used as an input device without going against the grain of the UI.

I've seen a video of a bt mouse being installed and working on a JB'd iPad. The software/driver draws a pointer on the display. That's the only difference which goes against the grain if you will. The way that scrolling works, etc stays the same. The pointer is your finger tip, and left click is tapping the screen, and left holding is dragging of course, and right click As I recall brings back to home screen.

sounds great would be great if they introduced it but wouldn't it hit mini mac sales?

Yeah that's probably the reason there is no optional mouse for the blue tooth keyboard accessory. One of those things that makes too much sense. People who would otherwise also buy a MacBook air, could spend a lot less for a iPad stand and keyboard w/mouse. Not as good as a Mac air, but good enough for some people who mainly want an iPad.

Does anyone know how to update from 4.3.5 to IOS 5.0?? When trying to hold shift and restoring to the ispw it won't allow it error 3194.

Trying to avoid going to 5.0.1.

Apple stopped signing 5.0 a while ago - not possible to upgrade/downgrade to it at the moment

Would putting a line in the host file work so it doesnt go to apples servers? I did this when downgrading to an earlier ios file.

Only if you had shsh blobs saved for that particular ios (putting a line in the host file points to the cydia server). Doesn't work after ios 5, as far as I am aware. :)

unless you remote into a desktop pc.... then it would be very useful to have a mouse...

Anyone heard anything about the INeedJailBreak service? Norton Web Safe doesn't show anything bad about it.

They say they'll have a safe iOS 5.0.1 JB for iPad 2 soon.

I'd have no prob paying a small fee ($20) for assistance in JB'ing because I have no clue about JB'ing. Just as long as they are honest, don't make any dubious or false claims about the JB solution.

I realize you can get what they offer (the JB software itself) for free, but I've never done this and could easily dl the wrong one or whatever.
