Ipad 2 .... do I ?

Not sure how good it actually is, but how about looking at the Dell Inspiron Duo. Works as a netbook and as a tablet if you want to.
£245 on Dell Outlet.

OP: If decent content / app support is important to you then ipad is the way to go. Apps are cheap and most of the restrictions e.g. no SD card slot are pretty easy to work around.

If battery life is important then you also would go for apple.

If you want to create content then a cheap laptop would be better. Ipad ok for basic editing but I would not chose it to create significant work.

I think the lack of using a USB storage facility is pretty bad in my view. Sometimes people have photos on a USB Stick they want to show you and if all you have is a iPad then you won't be able to view them

I am sure there is some bizarre reason why Apple decided not to have one on the iPad 2.

Would be interested in knowing why.

At a guess I would say that if it accepted usb input there would be very little point in people choosing the 64Gb Ipad over the 16Gb one?

The ipad is a fantastic bit of kit IMO mine is used regularly every day, however it doesnt seem like good value for the OP given the requirements.

I wouldn't say iPad for this. No tablet is a laptop replacement and I can think of one which has tried to be a laptop. And a phone. A tablet is a compromise or a downgrade.

HTML5 still isn't there properly and won't be in the full flow of it for a few years. Flash has a while longer for video. And no real contender has appeared for flash games.

A laptop for the same price, or maybe a bit less will match performance with much better expandability, compatibility and will get on towards the battery life of the iPad too.

That Dell duo thing with the tablet and the laptop, I wouldn't. For a start Windows 7 has terrible touch support.

Why are people telling him to buy one when it doe'snt meet 2 of his 3 requirements and a tab would hardly be my first choice of hardware for messing around with excel spread sheets with.
