Just seen that the HP Slate is now official after being cancelled, made out to be a rumour, etc.

How do people reckon it will compare to the iPad 2?

I found the iPad 1 too limiting not having proper USB support for copying files to and from it. If iPad 2 has a USB port for copying films to VLC player and files/books to the readers it would be a lot more useful. I just found having to boot my laptop up to copy stuff over defeated the point in it all.

Do you guys reckon iPad 2 will support USB input basically doing away the need to sync with itunes? That could be a major game turner!

Aimed at completely different markets by the looks of things. I can't see many consumers choosing the Slate at $800 over an iPad at $500. The fact you need a stylus to use it properly is just awful as well.

Rather than USB the best thing for iPad 2.0 would be Wireless syncing.

My Zune could do that and its something i think would push an iPad from being an oddity to me to something that would have an actual use.

just need to make it slightly more open as well. While the restrictions on my iPhone dont bother me in the slightest if i was going to buy a pad id want a little more flexibility.

If you want Windows 7* on a Slate and all the associated problems that brings then, sure, get a HP Slate.

Otherwise get an iPad.

As for USB ports well that ain't ever going to happen.

* Any full desktop based operating system shoe horned onto a slate type device is a bad idea before the Windows fanbois lynch me. :D

Stylus = fail, unless they've including some new front end gui I can't see the experience being overwhelming (windows tablets have been around for years, and look how popular they are).

Am I the only one who isn't bothered about USB ports on the iPad?

Rubbish. If Wacom have done nearly half as good a job with the HP as they have with their Intuos range it's going to be an amazing feature. HP are really pushing for the creative market of late, and they've got some great products in more than just computers.

All that counts is iOS devices because there the apps are designed for a fixed resolution. Having 1024x768 for a single generation only, then a non-integer multiple of that would be a major annoyance for developers.

I guess we will have to wait and see :)

i don't see the point in the iPad full stop, can't see how it's practical in any sense. if i want a phone i have a phone, if i want something larger i have a netbook.

nevertheless, it's your money.

Lets wait a few minutes to turn on the netbook yeh.. something which is 'larger once opened'

They are two completely different things... really

Anyone who compares a iPad to a laptop or netbook is just ..... dum :p
