A friend bought a ipad 3 recently and being the muppet that he can be, has broken the lower left corner of the glass. He isn't that bothered and has said I can have it for a decent price, but I'm unsure of how much it will cost to replace?

Any ideas?

(Yes I'm on the phone to Apple, but I'm stuck in a massive queue!)

Thanks.

From apple will probably be ridiculous, couple hundred £'s. But for someone privately, its do-able for about £80, at least thats roughly what I would charge(Would look around the market first though)

Bloody hell! After a half hour wait, it transpires that it'll cost half the cost of the ipad again! What a bloody joke!

My wife powdered the screen on my iPad 2 about 4 weeks after we got it, not just cracked but the whole bottom left corner until about 1/4 of the way up was just dust.

Apple do the limited replacement thing and you get a "new" one for around £170 i think it was. They do the same with phones that cost £90 though.

For the phone its not a bad deal but for the iPad it did seem a little expensive.

My wife shouldnt be allowed to touch expensive things.

If the laptop was to break in another way (overheat etc), would they still refuse to replace it on account of the screen being broken?

They would probably do what they do with iPhones and do a replacement, but that's no guarantee if the screen is broken. It is perfectly repairable, check out youtube videos, and price it up yourself. Otherwise, there are plenty of companies that will do it relatively cheaply in comparison to Apple.

your basically getting a new iPad apple don't fix them they just give you a refurb which is basically new, so for £190 thats not bad!
