iPad Air 2 Battery Replacement

I'm actually wondering if it's financially worth replacing the battery in this Air 2 considering it's age, realistically it's got 1yr left of iOS support as it's at the bottom of the list of compatible iPad OS 14 devices.

I have a friend who works at Apple and gives me discount on any new purchases.

iPad 10.2" 32GB WiFi = £349.00 with his discount (17%) it brings it down to £289.67
iPad Air 2 Apple Trade-in = £110.00
Total: £179.67

Giving a brand new iPad with new battery, slightly faster SoC and longer software support.

I think it could be the better option to just spend the extra, thoughts?

I wouldn't get a new iPad with A10. It already is a 4 year-old chip, not sure how much upgrade it's got left. Can you stretch your budget and get the iPad Air 10.5? At least it has A12.

I'm also in the market for a new iPad but am waiting for the September event, looks like there will be a 10.8-inch iPad.

I didn't realise the entry level iPad was that old....really not trying to break the bank as it's for my partners youngest child.

On the subject of Apple and batteries. My wife went into an Apple Store today as her 3 year old iPhone 7 battery wasn’t lasting a day’s use, and was pretty much refused a battery change on environmental grounds. She was well aware when she booked the appointment that the phone was long out of warranty and happy to pay for it, but was pretty shocked that they point blank refused to do it.

Anybody else ever experience this?

Environmental grounds? I'm not sure I get it? Throwing away one battery and replacing it or throwing away a whole phone and replacing it.

I honestly don’t get it either. The mother-in-law got her battery replaced on an out of warranty iPhone 7 of about the same age at the same Apple store a few months ago, no hassle. Yet they’ve refused to do it on what they stated were ‘environmental grounds’.

Part of me thinks this is a rather underhand sales tactic personally.

They're still selling the iphone 7 chipset in their latest iPad so they couldn't even use that as an excuse.

that’s absurd. I think she should have asked to speak with a manager.

Apple also offers a pickup service for battery replacement. They collect the iPhone from your address for free (They will send you the packaging as well) and replace the battery, and will deliver to you. You can order this service online. It will be at the same cost as a replacement in store. Turnaround time is 2-3 days, so if you send it on a Monday you get it on Wednesday or Thursday.

Just a bad technician.
Guidance is if any of the following (for iPhone):
Under 80% capacity
And/or
Over 600 cycles with poor battery life
And/or
Battery over 3 years old with poor battery life

then suggest battery replacement or new device purchase as applicable (old device damaged etc)

I’ve just arranged an online battery replacement for my 3 year old, 325 cycle, 75.2% iPad Pro 12.9. It’s actually slightly cheaper doing it online than the £99 quoted for in store replacement (I’ve paid about £96).

Finally managed to get the iPad back and have just organised a service request for a battery replacement.

Hopefully should get the box delivered within a couple of working days.

The battery service went perfectly!

The box arrived the day after dispatch, I arranged pick up for the next day, Faulty iPad delivered for service the day after that and the replacement iPad was dispatched the same day. All in all it was a four day process which went very smoothly indeed.

The new Apple battery serviced iPad is perfect and the difference in battery life is noticeable. I think it was money well spent.
