My missus has an Ipad and as much as it pains me to say it I quite like it

If I were to get one too there is an app that I installed on there ( £20 ) that was for me really, so could I install it on another Ipad without paying, I would be ok if it was only on the new one and not used on the old one

Apps are tied to the Apple ID used to install them. You can install that app on your own iPad with no issue if you use the same Apple ID.

I have some American only apps on mine that are bought with a different ID compared to my UK one. No problems.

If you need to update it on the device then you will need to sign into her account for the App Store to show the update, then switch back to yours.

This is accessbile from Settings > Store. :)

If you have different computer user accounts on the computer side or use different computers you will need her to sign in to her account on yours. This then authorises yours to her apps. Just download them into your iTunes library. Otherwise when you sync your device it'll say the computer isn't authorised to hold the app.

One iTunes account can be activated on 5 different machines, and I believe iOS apps are good for 100 devices.

Believe that all made sense. :p

I think that maeks sense

so if I use my missus' ID then I will be ok ?

I'm not trying to be sneaky as as soon as they are on mine then they wont be used on hers

Yip. It only requires manual switching from the main (your) iTunes account when it comes to updates. If I knew your computer setup it would be easier to define. :)

It's not sneaky at all, if they didn't want you to do it they could easily stop it. They have to account for people moving to different devices. I actually like how flexible Apple's DRM is when it comes to apps, the trust model makes it easier for all.

me an my wife have matching his and hers iphone 4s.

Any app we buy on one, we buy on both so you'll be fine.

Just make sure you set it up on the same apple account. And don't worry about being sneaky. The license on iOS apps doesn't limit them to one machine, its up to 100 or something silly. As long as the devices are owned by the same person (apple defines that by being tied to the same itunes/app store account) you're fine licensing wise.

I don't suppose you know if the same is true for purchasing organisations (rather than individuals) as well?

theres an exclusion in there that says it only applies for non commercial use

http://www.apple.com/legal/itunes/us/terms.html#SERVICE

If its for commercial use, its unlimited number of devices per person (eg his desktop, his phone and his ipad is fine , but not 30 ipads for 30 different people)

I'm not sure if Apple worry about it too much. There is a school in Scotland that has gone fully iPad. They've had great success, but they want to support dev's so I trying to come up with a way to buy extra copies as at present they could use one purchase for every iPad in the school.

That's the blog about it. A good read if you have time.
