Hi All,

Million Dollar question... is the iPad Mini due a refresh soon?

Looking at Mac rumours, I could see a CPU upgrade coming in the next release of products potentially, but other than that, nothing much.

We have an iPad 2 32GB and an iPod Touch 32GB that we are thinking of selling and buying an iPad Mini 32/64GB to replace it with, but obviously we won't be rushing into doing this if there is a reasonable chance it will be refreshed in a few months.

Thoughts?

Yes a refresh is going to be soon, I'm pretty sure the new iPads will have wireless 802.11ac I believe.

Just what I was hoping for as we are about to upgrade our TC to the new ac wireless one.

Worth waiting for then me thinks :) When is it likely to be announced (as in, when is the next apple conference?)

I believe its September/October time. The newer one is also rumored to have a A6 chip which is a huge leap in CPU performance.

There is also rumors that the 10" iPad will have a smaller profile similar to the iPad mini, this is what I'm really waiting for.

interesting....

when is the next apple conference around that time, I can't wait !! :D

From what I have seen iPhone is due for 10th September and iPad should be in October/November and there is meant to be new mbp's and the mac pro. Seems like a busy ass fall for Apple.

I'm really waiting for a retina iPad mini, it would be the perfect gaming tablet.

Been holding out nearly a whole year for this! a retina version of the mini would the perfect tablet for me - roll on October/ November ;)

I think they will hold off on the new mini until Q1 2014.

The current model is still selling extremely well and I expect Apple will want to have a strong seller that they can keep in stock for the Christmas season rather than refresh it and then have supply problems.

I'm not too sure whether the Mini 2 will be released before Christmas.

At most, you can expect to get AC wifi, along with a new processor. But don't expect a retina display.

I agree.
If they do refresh it, it will be incremental with faster CPU and AC wifi. I doubt very much we will see a retina mini this year.

I'm inclined to disagree, especially when I keep seeing stories like this:

It makes perfect sense for Apple to bring out a new mini with retina display, why release a new model with old display tech? And now the competition has caught up Apple have to do this to compete

But that would mean it makes sense to make the Air have a retina screen too. I personally find nothing wrong with either the iPad Mini screen, or that in the Air, and by Apple keeping the screens as they are, that means those who want the screen will have to pay more. Plus, there is the thing of battery life, as the retina screen wouldn't allow me to get over 13 hours life out of my iPad mini, or allow such a battery life in the 2013 Air.

But rumours will be made up and spread about, even though they have zero evidence.

The MBA is fine with as it is IMO, as firstly it doesn't cannibalise sales of the Retina MBP lineup. Secondly, it's 12 hour battery life is currently untouchable by competitors, and that is partly down to the screen not drawing that much power compared to if it had a Retina display.

OS X Mavericks also has substantial power saving breakthroughs made that will further increase the battery life of the laptop also.

Margins. Unless they can produce the retina screen at the same price as the current iPad mini screen. The iPad mini is already cutting into profits as the margins are lower then the full sized iPad and adding a retina screen will only make that worse.

Also Retina would mean a device that is going to be heavier as it will need more battery.

I think the Mini line is the bleeding edge in terms of weight and dimensions where as the iPad is the bleeding edge in terms of performance and power.
