iPad on a flight?

Now this would be cool! Somehow I think this would beat Angry Birds for downloads if you could do this...

Look shifty and show your fellow passengers this:

Let's be honest, the iPad market pretty much is the tablet market.

Pretty much, last time through customs they say

"Could passengers please take out your Laptop and iPads from you bags please"

Rather than "tablet".

The world iPad has gone into the English langage as much as hoover now.

Last flight I went on we were told to turn off all devices including those with aircraft modes.

I think it was just take off and landing though, I didn't pay much attention was reading a book.

Ah, it's the good old Hoover / Vacuum cleaner situation all over again.

I'd be surprised if you could run down the battery during anything but a very long haul flight.

8+ hours battery on them IIRC. Also Wi-fi and display takes up like 40-60% of the power. With Wi-fi off and brightness down to 0 it should last 10+ hours.

what do you do about power? ie to charge the ipad on a flight?

Depends on who you are flying with?? I flew out to Brisbane via Singapore on Singapore airlines and they had a usb port where you could charge your devices. So i just charged up my BB playbook, my SGS3 and my BB 9900 when they were almost empty. Found they had usb ports on the A380 and the A330 which i jumped on from Singapore to Brisbane. Mind you this was economy, pretty sure in business and first they had 2 or more usb ports from which you could charge your devices.

64% is hardly the whole market and its not a part of the language other than amongst fanbois.

Nah I dunno about that. Everyone knows what an iPad is. Even people that don't know what a "tablet" is.

It's not the same as "Hoover" because an iPad has a certain luxury/status thing going on which stops people using iPad like that in case they look pretentious. It also doesn't lend itself particularly well to being used as a verb, like hoovering or googling. But it's still in common usage far more than "tablet" is.
