Hi,

I'm looking at entering into an Iphone contract - however, obviously the 3GS is recently launched.

Other than having copy/paste - "tethering" if you want to pay extra, and a few other bits and bobs, is there really any difference worthy of having to pay for the handset? I'm thinking not?

Are any of these added functions available by just getting an "old" Iphone and just upgrading the software - or am I completley missing the point?

Cheers

Copy and paste is available on the 3G with OS 3.0. Voice control, video, compass etc are 3GS only.

Personally I see the biggest advantage of the 3GS as the significant increase in speed and responsiveness.

As I thought - and the 3G isn't exactly very slow is it!

Has anyone had any experience of upgrading before the end of their existing contract with O2? It says on their website it is possible, but I'd like to have some forewarning before phoning up their call centre and inevitably getting a **** who doesn't know about it!

Cheers!

You'll have to buy out the contract (i.e. pay off the rest of the term). Sometimes if you're within a month or two of the end of the term then they'll let you off.

Personally, 3G to 3GS seems like a waste as you can get most of the new features on the 3G anyway. Of course, if you're buying new then it makes sense to get the best you can afford now as you're going to have to live with it for a while. :)

I just bought a 3g on online auction for 250 and stuck a £20 simplicity sim in it. Gets me 600/1200 and unlimited web. Personally think it's a much better option to £35 p/m for 2 years and 89 quid up front. Warranty also applies to the phone not the person so mine is covered even though second hand :)

Although the girl who sold it to me was not the best seller, the phone is only 2 months old but the warranty carries over from her previous (it is a replacement handset for one that broke) so I only have about 75 days left. Also she didn't include the earphones and made no mention of this in the auction the *****.

Still overall I am happy, cheaper option and it syncs up with my macbook for calendar, itunes etc. Probably I will keep it until the next iPhone and then maybe go for a contract, but I didn't think the 3gs was worth it. This one seems fast enough to me.
