Iphone 3G or something else?

I'm thinking of buying an Iphone 3G 8GB. I like the amount of software that is available for it

Is there any other phones I should consider that have the same kind of features?

The following are a must!

GPS
WIFI
No bigger than the Iphone 3G
Email including exchange email if possible

Any suggestions?

Few options from the Nokia stable:

E71
E75
5800

The last two are roughly 1mm thicker than the iPhone, but smaller in the other dimensions.
 
EDIT: so are half the others in this thread :)

i8910 (Omnia) HD and i7500 are the other thinner ones.

i am loving my G1 and it is still better then the iphone in my eyes just a shame with the way it looks not as sexxy as the iphone

how ever the htc hero is out soon i think in 2 or 3 weeks i would wait for that
 
I would go with the iphone. The Apps are just too good compared to what you can get with the other phones mentioned.

For less than a bag of chips you can get some really nice Apps and games.:cool:
 
I'm in a similar boat myself.

Currently got an xda orbit 2, contract just finished, did not renew as they didn't give me any good offer on the iphone but I am interested in getting something new.

I've had the orbit 2 for 18 months, it has a GPS fully working with tomtom, which is what attracted me to it in the first place. I just wiped it clean and installed WM 6.1 to give it a 'new' feel :p I might just keep hold of this, it does everything I need although I do like the apps that are available on the iphone.

Or you could get them free on a Win Mo device.;)

There are a huge number of Win Mo programs out there, the only issue is finding them as they aren't all on a central database. However a quick google search will usuall put paid to that issue (after searching the two or three biggest winmo sites).
 
Its personal choice really, i had a Iphone 3g and its the best phone i have used specially when if i can say here jail break it, had to sell it mind as i want to cancel my contract.

Tried all the top phones that people were recommending but they weren't in the same league as a touch screen on the iphone it left them for dead just being able to be on the web or looking at pictures and pinch/pull the screen to zoom in and out no other does it better, but as i said its personal choice and what you want from a phone.
 
If you can pick up a 3G for cheap than i'd go for it. I picked mine up (8GB) for £150 a few months ago and am on an O2 simplicity £20 a month contract. It gives me 600 minutes, 1200 texts and "unlimited" internet. It's only a rolling monthly contract too.

Can't really understand all the Apple bitching to be honest.

It's a good phone, and the only one i've had that hasn't had me tearing my hair out for one reason or another.

The only real downside to me is the cost. It's not worth a money rinsing contract fee. Get it unlocked and use it on the network of your choice, or do what i've done or I wouldn't bother. Despite being from Brighton I wouldn't bend over and take an iphone contract.

The best compromise is a Android handset such as a Magic, Hero or i7500/Galaxy.

I've had some very bad experiences with Win Mo handsets, but havent tried the latest, so cant offer a balanced opinion.

Good man...ive had my Bold since Dec last yr and honestly its the best device ive ever used...it does everything the iphone does but much much better...ok the web browsing isnt that great but thats the only decent thing i like about the iphone...web browser wise nothing beats the iphone although my Magic comes very close to beating the iphone ;).
 
Ive got an E71 (work) and an Iphone 3g (personal) and have to say Id recommend them both.

I love my Iphone, once you start getting past the plethora of crappy apps and start getting into the more useful ones then it really does come to life.

However the E71 is equally as impressive in my opinion. OK the Symbian OS is a right pain in the ass at times but the device build quality is second to none, battery life is astonishing and web browsing is surprisingly easy with Opera installed.

GPS navigation software is only just beginning to come through on the iphone as well but the E71 has loads of already matured options for turn by turn navigation.

Mine came from Vodafone and had pre-installed Vodafone's own voice guided navigation software which works a treat for me.

Both great devices and to be honest if I had to choose one, I dont know which one I would choose.
