iPhone 3GS Screen Replacement

Following this guide but the replacement screen I got doesn't have ribbon connector 3, what is this used for? And can it be transferred from the old screen?

Pretty sure that's the earpiece connector/proximity sensor. Without it you won't be able to hear the person on the other end of the line without using speakerphone.

Very unusual to get a screen without it really. Are you certain it's missing?

is the small black piece the ribbon connector, as on the old screen it has a circuit connector, this just seems to be plastic?

That ribbon is part of the display assembly itself.

You push it on the rear of the new display and put it back together.

Could it be simply folded over and the connector is tucked out of sight?
