This is the first time I've had to upgrade the firmware with the jailbreak already installed.

Whats the best way to upgrade the firmware and install the jailbreak while keeping all my jailbroken apps intact.

Can I create the custom IPSW using pwnagetool and just update the firmware that way or do I have to update the firmware to 4.3.1 first and then rejailbreak??

Cheers.

Id like to know the answer to this as well...only thing is that im on the 4.1 jb rather than 4.2 jb.

What i did was restore the phone, backed up photos and used 'iDriveContacts' for my contacts saves all details and pictures along with them.

- Restored the phone using iTunes and updated to 4.3.1
-Used redsnow to jailbreak with the downloaded ipsw
-nada..

Was you already jailbroken on 4.2.1?? If so did you have to reinstall all you jailbroken apps individually??

There's no sure-fire way to keep the settings for Cydia apps, though if you install AptBackup it'll keep a list of JB apps to re-install automatically after you update through iTunes and re-Jailbreak it.

You can use the official Apple one, I did.

If I do that I lose my current jailbreak and all the Cydia stuff I have installed.

What I'm after is a way to go from jailbroken 4.2.1 straight to jailbroken 4.3.1 on my iPhone 4 without losing any of my Cydia stuff. I don't have to worry about unlocks because its a factory unlocked direct from Apple.

I've not seen a way of doing it other than backing up in iTunes, using a Cydia backup thing and then doing it that way but I can't remember where I saw that.

BTW, My cydia settings were kept, I just had to download Lockinfo, SBsettings, etc again but all the settings were there still.
