Picked my car up and love it! but anyway, not going to start another debate about that!.

Anyway, i'm reading conflicting google results about connecting iphone to idrive bluetooth, some people connecting with older versions, others not connecting with newer versions. Long and short, i go to communication menu and it says please connect telephone - i assume this is discoverable mode?, anyway, i goto bluetooth on iphone and it just searches for ages and finds nothing. Am i doing it right? I know an idrive update costs quite a bit!,alternative is Dension 500 kit.

Also, is there an aux plug in the 2005 E60?

ta very muchly

No there is no aux plug on a 2005 E60. If you want one added the car will need re-coding to accept it at about £200ish plus the cost of the aux port.

I beleive the iPhone 4 is only compatible with later Bluetooth UIM's.

Are you sure the car has Bluetooth telephone preperation?

I think you're in the wrong menu. On mine (albeit later) on the main menu you press down on the rotary controller, then scroll to BlueTooth, then Phone. You then click on search for phone and the start the bluetooth scan on your iPhone. I've seen the iPhone 4 work with pre LCI iDrive so it should be compatible

Can't answer either question but if you search over on www.5series.net you should find the answer to both. The standard aux plug(if fitted) is located between the front seats in the centre console at the back facing the rear seats.

How would i tell? I assumed so.

Go into Communication on the iDrive menu. If there is nothing in there which relates to Bluetooth, then the car isn't fitted with Bluetooth.

bluetooth (whether i have it or not), is not at the pinnacle of importance, if i have it, that's a bonus, i'd like it, but if i don't have it, lets just say i won't lose sleep over it ;). I don't like using phone and driving at the same time anyway so i'd only use it when immobile. It's not like i have to take business calls lol.

Well with the information given go and check your car and see if it has bluetooth, if not then no worries.

No need to defend something you may or may not have if apparently you don't care about it. ;)

Im thinking if parking sensors that are standard were listed as options and Bluetooth wasn't then it isn't fitted. Does it have widescreen nav Wes?

Yes, wide nav and got Bluetooth too, paired up to iPhone no problem this morning. I was looking at wrong menu (communications instead menu in vehicle settings).

Stupid question anyway, can I play music from iPhone via Bluetooth?

Ah sorry, I forgot the name of it but then realised it's the aux input which you've already asked about. :o It came to mind straight away as that is what my dad will be using to connect his in the M6.

if you didnt have bluetooth I would have said get a parrot kit, hear good things about them, but the bmw phone kit is really rather nice, makes the porsche attempt quite fisher price like in comparison
