As title, I got the iphone 4 on release day from the orange store in town, now the power buttons (top right) isnt really working, its lost its 'click' and takes excessive force to make it engage (iv not been pressing it hard at all before it failed), its still under a year old.

What would happen if I took it to the orange store ? Will they replace it on the spot? (I had full insurance for 6 months from orange at £12 a month, now its covered on my house insurance)

OR if I took it to an apple store, would they replace it also ? Iv never had issue before, but I can only see the button getting worse before it gets better im afraid.

I'd book an appointment in an Apple store and take it there, they're likely to replace it on the spot.

I would book appointment with Apple, I had a issue with my launch day phone, speaker failed during a call, they replaced it there and then :)

Happened to mine 3 weeks ago. I bought on launch also.

Booked an appointed at the Apple store and they just replaced it. Simples.

Well, your warranty is with Apple - if you have a hardware fault you take it to an apple store for a probable on the spot replacement.

If you go back to Orange, it's quite likely they will want to 'send it off' to be repaired leaving you without a phone. You may be lucky if they offer to replace it in store... worth asking perhaps first if its more convenient.

I work in a retail phone shop and when our customers have such issues, it usually gets sent off to Apple for a warranty repair, taking anything from 2 to 4 weeks. The only time we would replace the handset via insurance is if it's 'beyond economic repair' like a smashed screen or water damage, and a claim with excess would then have to be made.

But if you just simply went to Apple, it would be direct and you would get it sorted quicker, or even a replacement issued there and then!

That's annoying it's a 170 mile round trip :( defo no other options ?

If you call Apple they will replace via UPS, they will send you a new unit first but place a hold on your card for the amount until your old unit is collected or you can send it to them to have replaced once received.

Means you don't go without a phone and the service saves you 170 mile round trip.

I had a launch model here too, and the exact same thing happened to me about 3-4 weeks ago. Beware though, when you get a replacement model be sure to check it thoroughly as they are refurbished ones. The one I was given had a small chip in it which I couldn't ignore since my original handset was mint, and when I took it back to swap the replacement they did say they wouldn't normally change that as I left the store with the first one meaning I was happy with it's condition. So yeah I checked the second one thoroughly before I signed anything!

I think they will. You wont even need a receipt or actually I think the law in UK allows you to replace the phone within first 6 months and repair it afterwards within your 1 year manufacturer warranty.

You're right, I replaced mine few days after I bought mine, because of the wiggly home button. It isn't perfect still, but hey... the whole phone is brilliant :D

Sorry to bunny hop but i took my iphone 4 to pieces with the same issue as described here, it turns out there is a micro mini pad that is under the button that had become loose. Now i searched the internet for ages trying to find out what was wrong as the connector did click and button was working fine but why it didnt click when you pressed puzzled me as it was missing less than 1mm.

Its really easy to fix yourself, you just need to find the missing part.

Why void your warranty when Apple will replace the phone for free?
